  9. Update: Stomp understands that the customer has been given a refund. The seller has also been suspended from Shopee pending further investigations. Original article: We all hope for a perfect world but unfortunately, slight discrepancies between advertisements and the actual products are not all that uncommon. But imagine having your purchase arrive looking vastly mismatched or even worse, in a completely different state. Stomper Huanmin ordered a water spray gun meant for car-washing on e-commerce site Shopee on Thursday (Jan 21) and paid $98.57 for it. She was horrified when the parcel that arrived two days later was a mere A5-sized envelope. Huanmin recounted: "I received the parcel and to my horror, it was an A5-sized envelope. How can a car wash spray be fitted into an A5 envelope? "I opened the parcel and saw a photo of the car wash spray. I did not receive the actual product but only a photo of it." The Stomper said she has submitted a dispute against the order and requested for a refund, but has yet to hear any updates. She added: "On one hand, it's funny because I actually did receive the item, but in photo form. But it's also the most ridiculous purchase ever!"

  15. TAIPEI — Making a homemade meal can ensure your family eats fresh ingredients while adding some fun to your family’s lunchtime. A Japanese woman has recently shared a photo of a “special lunchbox” she made for her husband, drawing much attention among social media users. According to Japanese media “FNNプライムオンライン,” a Twitter user named “Yamakatsu” recently shared that she intended to make a gorgeous lunch for her husband and decided to design this lunch with reference to an animated character. A lunch box was packed with plain rice with ingredients on the top, which looks like a human face in the photo. She said she chose sesame seeds for its hair, Shumai for eyes, beans for its pupils and nostrils, and a shred of carrot for its pink mouth. However, when she came out with a crooked face, she couldn’t help but sigh, “It’s not easy to make a lunch box.” Yamakatsu told the media that when her husband opened the lunchbox, he saw the face and exclaimed, “It’s scary.” She added that it is much harder than expected to make a styled lunchbox that is both nutritious and delicious. In response to the post, some said that she has a unique taste while praising its sharp eyes. One wrote: “It looks delicious,” and another commented that she could apply for a design patent.

  16. (From left) Elijah Tay, Lune Loh and Kokila Annamalai seen protesting outside the Ministry of Education headquarters at Buona Vista on Tuesday (26 January) afternoon. (PHOTO: Dhany Osman/Yahoo News Singapore) SINGAPORE — Three people were arrested following a short protest outside the Ministry of Education (MOE) headquarters on Tuesday afternoon (26 January). Elijah Tay, 19, Lune Loh, 24, and Kokila Annamalai were seen holding placards outside the building when Yahoo News Singapore arrived at the scene around 5.10pm. At least a dozen plain clothes police officers were seen interviewing the trio at the scene. After about 30 minutes, the trio were arrested by uniformed officers and escorted away in a police van. Elijah Tay, 19, was arrested with two others after they staged a protest outside the Ministry of Education HQ on 26 January 2021. (PHOTO: Dhany Osman/Yahoo News Singapore) According to a statement by the trio issued earlier to the media, they were there to stage a “peaceful demonstration” and asked for Education Minister Lawrence Wong to end what they perceived as discrimination against LGBTQ+ students at MOE schools. They also called on Wong to “uphold the fundamental right of all students to an education within a safe and supportive school life”. The protest comes after a transgender student alleged earlier this month that her school, Millennia Institute, had barred her from attending classes on several occasions over non-compliance of the school’s dress code. Ashlee, who prefers to be identified by she/her pronouns, claimed in a statement issued by a group of LGBTQ organisations that Millennia Institute told her she could attend classes if she cuts her hair and wears the uniform for male students. The statement also alleged that Ashlee had been facing difficulties in seeking hormonal replacement therapy as a result of MOE’s interference. The MOE released a statement on 16 January, denying that it had interfered with Ashlee’s medical treatment. It later issued a separate joint statement with the Institute of Mental Health that “the school is committed to providing the education support the student needs to graduate, including via home-based learning”. Yahoo News Singapore has reached out to the police for more information. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1879290408885778

  32. Returning trays is about cleaning after your mess. Just like we teach our children to bring their plates to the sink after a meal. Same principle. Just like you flush after your toilet business. Or do you not flush because you paid 10 cents? Why should I return my tray since I paid for cleaning? Well, do you talk loudly and disturb others in a cinema since you paid for the ticket? Of course not because we are considerate. So why can't we be considerate and clear our own mess and allow others to quickly access the table? Then what are cleaners for? Cleaners are there to wipe the table or clear the trays for elderly people etc No one is asking you to wipe the table or wash the dishes. The dish washers or cleaners will take care of that so no job is taken away, contary to popular belief that jobs will be taken away if everyone starts to return their trays. If you travelled to Korea or Japan, tray returning is a norm. Not littering is a norm. That's why when it comes to being civilized and cultured, we still have a lot to learn.

  34. A man was concerned to find metal strips, which he believed were from a stainless steel scrubbing pad, in his meal from a coffee shop stall on Saturday (Jan 23). Stomper Jonathan said he visited the Food City coffee shop at Block 447A Jalan Kayu at around 4pm. He ordered Nasi Briyani Ayam with add-on potato for $6. Jonathan, who shared photos of the incident, recounted: "I had just brought the food to my table and was about to eat, when I found strips of metal entangled in the fried chicken. "The metal strips are probably from a stainless steel scrubbing pad. Imagine if I happened to eat it. "The stall assistant was not apologetic at all. He just took my plate away and replaced it with a new one. There was no apology. "It's my first time at this stall and coffee shop, and nothing like this has happened to me before, but I find this really very dangerous. "Surely they are able to see the metal strips when they chop the chicken? "I have reported this to the relevant authorities and it's pending their investigation."

  35. (CNN)A court in India has ruled that groping a child through their clothing does not constitute sexual assault, drawing outrage across the country and frustrating campaigners battling to address widespread sexual abuse against women and children. In a judgment last week, Bombay High Court judge Pushpa Ganediwala found that a 39-year-old man was not guilty of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl as he had not removed her clothes, meaning there was no skin-on-skin contact. According to court documents, the man brought the child to his house on the pretext of giving her guava in December 2016. While there, he touched her chest and tried to remove her underwear, according to the judgment. He was found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced to three years in prison in a lower court, but then appealed to the High Court. In her judgment on January 19, Justice Ganediwala found that his act "would not fall in the definition of 'sexual assault,'" which carries a minimum three year prison term which can be extended to five years. "Considering the stringent nature of punishment provided for the offense, in the opinion of this court, stricter proof and serious allegations are required," she wrote. India's Protection of Children From Sexual Offenses Act 2012 does not explicitly state that skin-on-skin contact is needed to constitute the crime of sexual assault. Justice Ganediwala acquitted the accused of sexual assault but convicted him on the lesser charge of molestation and sentenced him to one year in prison. "It is the basic principle of criminal jurisprudence that the punishment for an offense shall be proportionate to the seriousness of the crime," she said. India's sexual assault problem Indians took to social media after the Bombay High Court decision was released to question the logic of the court decision, which sets a new precedent. Other high courts and lower courts around the country will now need to follow the Bombay High Court's decision. The National Commission for Women said it planned to mount a legal challenge to the judgment, which it said will have a "cascading effect on various provisions involving safety and security of women." Karuna Nundy, a lawyer at the Supreme Court of India, the country's top court, called for judges who passed judgments that were "completely contrary to established law" and basic rights to be retrained. "Judgments like this contribute to impunity in crimes against girls," she tweeted. Ranjana Kumari, the director of non-profit Centre for Social Research, which advocates for women's rights in India, said the judgment is "shameful, outrageous, shocking and devoid of judicial prudence." Sexual assault is huge issue in India, where sexual crimes are often brutal and widespread, but are often poorly dealt with under the country's justice system. Based on official figures from 2018, the rape of a woman is reported every 16 minutes. Following a high-profile case in 2012 when a 23-year-old student was raped and murdered on a New Delhi bus, legal reforms and more severe penalties were introduced. Those included fast track courts to move rape cases through the justice system swiftly, an amended definition of rape to include anal and oral penetration, and the publication of new government guidelines intended to do away with the two-finger test which purportedly assessed whether a woman had sexual intercourse recently. But high-profile rape cases have continued to hit headlines. Last year, number of cases sparked outrage, including the case of a 13-year-old girl who was raped and found strangled to death in a field, and an 86-year-old woman who was allegedly raped while she waited for the milkman. Activists have pointed to ongoing issues in the justice system. Under India's legal system, for instance, sexually abusing a transgender person carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
