  11. By now, you would have heard that Singaporeans are some of the most sleep-deprived people in the world. Here’s a recap: We are the third most sleep-starved population, after Tokyo and Seoul, in a 2014 survey of 43 cities. And in a more recent online poll conducted in 2018 across 12 countries, Singapore took the second spot after Britain. In fact, close to 60 per cent of Singaporeans’ ability to sleep well has been directly impacted by the pandemic. And more than a third experience negative impact on their stress levels, ability to sleep well, mental/emotional health, sleep and work routines. MORE HURDLES TO A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP Close to three in 10 Singaporeans say that they now sleep less each night. More specifically, Singaporeans average 6.8 hours of sleep per night, down from seven hours during the previous survey released in 2020. According to the National Sleep Foundation, those aged 18 to 64 need seven to nine hours of sleep. We’re still sleeping less on weekdays – and even less so during the pandemic, averaging 6.6 hours on weekdays (versus 6.7 hours in 2020) and 7.3 hours on the weekend (versus 7.5 hours in 2020). It is no wonder that only less than half of the respondents in Singapore feel that they get enough sleep at night, and only 21 per cent feel well-rested most of the time when waking up in the morning. If you're trying to get in more sleep by going to bed early, here's a tip: Don't have a window of time but fix specific times for sleeping and waking, said Dr Han Hong Juan, consultant ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon and medical director of The ENT, Voice & Snoring Clinic at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Sleep duration aside, Singaporeans’ sleep quality is also a nightmare. According to the same Philips survey, which was conducted from Nov 17 to Dec 7, 2020, 40 per cent reported waking up during the night. Where they previously had no issues, 35 per cent now have difficulties falling asleep; meanwhile, 21 per cent began having problems sleeping through the night. What can you do if you often wake up in the middle of the night? "If you still fail to fall asleep after 20 to 30 minutes, get out of bed and do something calming (for example, listen to relaxing music) until you feel drowsy to sleep again," suggested Dr Han. While more than one in 10 Singaporeans are still being kept awake by their mobile phones and tablets, and their sleep environment (16 per cent), stress is now the biggest sleep disruptor for more than one third of the respondents. And stress comes in the form of work responsibilities for nearly six in 10 people, financial challenges for more than half, family issues for a third, and their own/family’s health for three out of 10 Singaporeans. To help you fall asleep better, Dr Han recommended penning your worries and troubles in a journal to avoid ruminating about them in bed. Also, try leaving at least a couple of hours between eating and going to bed, he added. DO YOU HAVE INSOMNIA? You might have hazarded a guess that insomnia rose during these unprecedented times and indeed it did. Twenty-seven per cent of Singapore adults – which went up from the 25 per cent in last year’s survey – currently experience insomnia as a medical condition that impacts their sleep. Of these insomniacs, the largest group – about a third – came from those between the ages of 35 and 49. Interestingly, nearly half of insomniacs also have obstructive sleep apnoea, a sleep disorder where your air flow is momentarily cut off by collapsed throat muscles. "If you experience a persistent inability to fall asleep and consistently have a good night’s rest, you should definitely see a doctor," said Dr Han. "This is particularly so if you experience daytime fatigue, and have difficulty staying awake or doing routine tasks. It could be an underlying sign of a sleep condition like insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea, which needs to be treated."

Get ready to lick the cheese dripping from your fingers in their newest concoction packed with all-time fan favorites mac and cheese plus their spicy chicken patty in a soft-toasted tortilla when it launches tomorrow at 80 outlets islandwide. The Zingerito, a portmanteau of KFC’s Zinger chicken burgers and “burrito,” costs S$5.90 and for a few dollars more includes a drink, fries, chicken, and mash potatoes. It is also available for delivery and takeaway. Sadly, the mac and cheese wrap will not be available at Changi Business Park, North Point City, Seng Kang, Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore Zoo, and Yew Tee Point.

Well, I think we thought too well of the United States, we thought the US side will follow the necessary diplomatic protocols. For China it is necessary to make our positions clear. So, let me say here, that in front of the Chinese side, the United States does not have the qualifications to say that it wants to speak to China from a position of Strength. Salvage! USA really poor! Tiongland already trumped over them!

  25. SINGAPORE - Unable to afford the services of sex workers, a man pretended to be an agent for rich "sugar daddies" and duped at least 11 women into having sex with him, so he could purportedly "test them out". When two of the victims tried to sever ties with him, the conman De Beers Wong Tian Jun threatened to disseminate their nude pictures. He also told the pair that to stop him from doing so, they had to have sex with him again. "Sugar daddy" is a term used to describe men who are willing to splurge on others, often younger people, in exchange for their company. Wong, now 39, pleaded guilty in a district court on Thursday (March 18) to 10 charges, including multiple counts of cheating. Twenty-six other charges will be considered during sentencing. In 2015, Wong looked through sex workers' advertisements online and realised that he could not afford to engage their services. The Singaporean then hatched a plan to create a post on online classifieds website Locanto, asking for paid escorts - whom he referred to as "sugar babes" - to supposedly provide sexual services to "sugar daddies" in exchange for cash. At least 11 women between 18 and 24 years old responded to his advertisement between April 2015 and January 2016. Wong lied to them, claiming that he had clients who could pay them each between $8,000 and $20,000 a month for their services. Deputy Public Prosecutors Cheng Yuxi and Tan Pei Wei stated in court documents: "He also told them that, in order to successfully secure a 'sugar daddy' arrangement with these clients, they had to send their nude photographs to the accused, have photographs taken of them in the nude, and/or engage in sexual conduct with the accused, which were filmed by the accused on some occasions. "The accused further deceived the victims that these acts were necessary so that the victims could be 'evaluated' by his clients to assess their suitability for the 'sugar daddy' arrangement." One of the victims, a 24-year-old woman, met Wong at a Hotel 81 branch on Oct 18, 2015, and he snapped her topless pictures. The pair then had unprotected sexual intercourse. The woman started having anxiety attacks following this incident. The prosecutors said: "She would sometimes cry during these attacks, and these were occasionally accompanied by shortness of breath, headaches, nausea and giddiness. In addition, she began having sleeping problems and nightmares." The Institute of Mental Health later diagnosed the woman with adjustment disorder. She begged Wong to delete her photographs on Jan 30, 2016. The conman then said that he would do so only if she agreed to "provide sexual services to him". When the woman told him that she was doing him a "favour" by not going to the police, Wong replied: "Now I have to pass your photos to my friends, in case anything happens to me, they will use the photos as they wish." Terrified, the woman lodged a police report on Feb 3, 2016. The court heard that Wong also targeted at least 10 more women. His bail was set at $20,000 on Thursday and he will be sentenced on April 20. For each count of cheating, an offender can be jailed for up to three years and fined.

  26. https://www.irishpost.com/news/vegan-claims...ree-meal-206226 A VEGAN woman has been left “disgusted” after discovering there were no meat-free meals on offer during a recent trip to KFC. Despite KFC’s strong association with fried chicken, a traditionally meat-based foodstuff, Vanessa Hensley and partner Aaron Saini headed to their local branch of the fast-food chain in Exeter earlier this month in the hopes of enjoying a vegan or vegetarian meal. However, the pescatarian, who does not eat any meat other than fish, was told by staff there no meat-free options available that evening in a development that left Vanessa feeling empty in every sense of the word. She told Devon Live: "We were all going to treat ourselves as a household to a family bargain bucket and also a vegetarian meal for myself. "When my partner got to the till to order they said, unfortunately, we haven't got any vegan or vegetarian options on the menu anymore - I thought that was absolutely disgraceful. "They didn't say a reason why - they were quite rude to my partner. "I think it's disgusting because there are more and more people becoming vegan and vegetarian these days. "We both left and said we'll go elsewhere for food - my partner said it's not fair so we ended up having fish and chips." The experience left Vanessa “angered” and “upset”. "I felt as though we vegetarians and vegans don't mean anything to them,” she said. "I think if they don't have those options for people with certain dietary requirements that they should have signage to say 'we don't cater for those people'. "For a takeaway and eat-in restaurant they're kind of losing out on money.” Responding to the incident a spokesperson for KFC apologised for the incident. “We never want our fans to leave feeling disappointed,” they aid. "It’s always amazing to see how popular our Original Recipe Vegan Burger is, but due to less demand from people out and about at the start of this year, and our focus on running our restaurants responsibly with smaller teams, we prioritised the vegan burger in areas where it was a massive hit." Unfortunately, it sounds as though they may have lost Vanessa as a customer forever, with the vegan telling Devon Live: “"I'm not going to KFC ever again."
