The_King
A resident in Yishun has accumulated even more clutter than before despite feedback from neighbours and the town council's intervention. The issue involving a ground-floor unit at Block 135 Yishun Street 11 was first highlighted by Stomp in July 2020, when a neighbour complained about an unpleasant smell and pests from the flat. The neighbour also expressed safety concerns and noted that the clutter, which belongs to an elderly woman, was blocking the entrance of the flat in question. The clutter at Block 135 Yishun Street 11 in July 2020 Nee Soon Town Council had said at that time that it was aware of the issue and had gotten in touch with the resident "several times", adding: "In 2020, we have intervened and cleared up the area five times. "We understand that the cluttering habit is a social issue and has been working closely with the Residents' Committee (RC) to reach out to the resident for assistance. "However, the situation has been challenging for the town council, RC and the neighbours." Unfortunately, two years have passed and the issue has only escalated. Another neighbour, Stomper Herman, told Stomp recently that things have gotten worse. He said: "The clutter has been there for some time but it's now getting worse. Both flats facing each other have their entrances blocked, with just a narrow space to go in. "I have never seen a house so full of rubbish and junk until the door is blocked. I pity the neighbour opposite." The clutter at Block 135 Yishun Street 11 in November 2022 In response to a Stomp query, Nee Soon Town Council said on Thursday (Nov 17) that it is aware of the issue. A spokesman added: "Our property team continues to monitor the situation and conduct removal of items placed at the common area. "We understand that the cluttering habit is a social issue and have been working closely with the grassroots and welfare organisations to reach out to the resident and provide assistance. However, the situation has been challenging for the town council, RC and the neighbours." 1
