SINGAPORE — Police on Monday (Feb 10) appealed to the public for information about a video of a male youth consuming a beverage at an NTUC FairPrice outlet here and placing it back on the shelf which made the rounds of social media.

In the video, that was first posted on Instagram Story and reposted on Twitter on Monday, a male youth in a white T-shirt can be seen taking a drink from the refrigerated shelf at the supermarket, before taking a swig from it.

Another male, who appears to be recording the incident, can be heard asking about the taste of the drink. The youths superimposed the words “how to spread Wuhan” on part of the video, an apparent reference to the novel coronavirus.

In response to the video’s posting on Twitter, the Singapore Police Force appealed to members of the public for information.

“Anyone with information (about) this incident can provide it to the police via the i-Witness portal. All information will be kept strictly confidential,” said the police.

On its Facebook page, NTUC FairPrice said that it is aware of what it called a “prank video” being circulated on social media.

“We understand also that the creators of the video have since made a public apology and shared that they had removed the items from the shelves and paid for them,” said NTUC FairPrice.

The supermarket chain added that nonetheless, it takes the matter “very seriously” as the video had caused “public alarm, exacerbated by the current coronavirus situation”.

“We will be working with the authorities on the necessary actions that need to be taken for this case,” said NTUC Fairprice, adding that it hopes that members of the public refrain from forwarding the video to avoid any further public distress.

The Twitter post was deleted about three hours after it was posted.

NTUC also useless... only jjww online... take matter very seriously? how seriously??

the right thing to do is to bring down all drinks on that shelf and charge them to the boys

who knows if they really remove the 2 drinks and paid for them? the boys should be made to pay for the whole shelf.
