SINGAPORE — Veteran Hong Kong actor Kenneth Tsang was pronounced dead on Wednesday (27 April) after the 86-year-old was found unconscious at a quarantine hotel in the Chinese city, according to a report by the South China Morning Post, citing sources.

The actor was observing quarantine in the Kowloon Hotel on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, after returning to Hong Kong from Singapore on Monday, the report said.

Staff from the Department of Health conducted a check on guests at the hotel, and did not get a response from Tsang’s room, according to a government source.

The source told the SCMP that hotel staff were called to open the door. Tsang was found unconscious inside and was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.

A COVID-19 rapid antigen test that Tsang took on Tuesday was negative.

Tsang had an illustrious career spanning over six decades in Hong Kong, Hollywood and Singapore.

He had acted in movies such as “A Better Tomorrow”, “Once a Thief” and "Overheard 3" in Hong Kong and “The Replacement Killers”, “Rush Hour 2” and “Die Another Day” in Hollywood. He also starred in several well-known Singapore TV drama series such as “The Teochew Family” and The Unbeatables II”.

The news comes not long after Hong Kong-born actor Mak Ho Wai died at the age of 76 on 14 April in Singapore. Mak, who became a Singaporean in 1997, worked at TVB in Hong Kong for over a decade and later acted in Singapore TV series such as "Don't Worry Be Happy" and "Destiny".
