The_King
The new seventh-generation MRT trains for the North-South and East-West MRT lines (NSEWL) have arrived in Singapore, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Monday (Feb 21). New Alstom Movia R151 Trains Arrive in Singapore Purchase of 106 new MRT trains in 2018 and 2020 “Here’s a closer look at our #NewestBaby! Don’t you just love its fresh green and red stripes and the new “pulse design”? 💚❤️🚆” (Image: LTA/Facebook) LTA awarded Bombardier Transportation (before its acquisition by Alstom) the contract to initially supply 66 new MRT trains for the NSEWL in 2018. The order expanded in 2020 with an additional 40 trains purchased of the same design and specification as part of a “long-term fleet renewal programme”. These 106 new Alstom Movia R151 trains will replace the first-generation Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151 trains, the second-generation Siemens C651 trains and the third-generation Kawasaki-Nippon Sharyo C751B trains running on the NSEWL. Enhanced Design and Commuter-friendly Features Artist’s Impression of the Alstom Movia R151 interior. (Image: LTA) The Alstom Movia R151 trains are fitted with design enhancements and more commuter-friendly features, in comparison to the past generations of NSEWL trains. There will be more open spaces for passengers in wheelchairs and parents with baby strollers, which are “in line with LTA’s efforts to create a more inclusive public transport system”. The new MRT trains will also be fitted with platform gap width reduction fillers for safer boarding and alighting and LCD dynamic route map displays above the train doors. Equipped with Predictive Maintenance features “They’re all set and ready to go! 🥳🎉 #DoYouKnow that trains are transported to us via sea 🌊 and they take about a month to arrive? 🤩” (Image: LTA/Facebook) The new Alstom Movia R151 trains are equipped with an integrated suite of condition-monitoring features and sensors to facilitate a “more robust, efficient and effective predictive maintenance regime”. LTA said this allows the rail operator to “make more efficient use of maintenance resources to pre-emptively address potential faults before they affect commuter service”. In addition, four trains are equipped with an Automatic Track Inspection (ATI) system to monitor running rails, track equipment and sleepers concurrently during passenger service. “The ATI System supplements existing track inspection activities to identify rail and trackside components that require maintenance in a more timely and efficient manner,” said LTA. 1
