Neighbors are mostly unaware of the crash in Yishun HDB flat

(Morning News) A 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after a fall from a flat on 81st Street in Yishun on Friday morning.

The accident happened at Block 852 Yishun Street 81 at around 5am on Friday (August 26).

The police confirmed to Lianhe Zaobao that authorities received a report at 5.20am on Friday that a 41-year-old man was lying downstairs at Block 852, Yishun Street 81. When paramedics arrived, the man was confirmed dead.

 

Preliminary police investigations revealed that there was no foul play involved in the accident.

It is understood that the accident occurred at the stairs on the ninth floor, but most of the nearby residents said they were unaware.

According to the photos provided by readers, a cleaner went to the scene to clean up the ground after the incident, believed to be cleaning blood.

 

A resident surnamed Zhang, who lives on the 11th floor, said that when his wife went out at 7:00 in the morning, she heard noises coming from downstairs. She didn't expect it to be a fall from the building at first, but she didn't feel that something was wrong until she saw the police and civil defense personnel at the scene.

"At nearly 8 o'clock, I saw five or six people crying downstairs. I believe they were relatives and friends of the deceased, but they all seemed to have unfamiliar faces."

A 62-year-old resident surnamed Zhou said that he heard crying from downstairs in the morning, and a nearby neighbor mentioned the incident later. She, who has lived here for nearly 30 years, also said: "Many people have moved out of this HDB in recent years, and many new neighbors are not familiar with everyone."

警方初步调查显示，这起事故不涉及犯罪行为（foul play）。

据了解，事故在九楼的楼梯口发生，但附近居民大多表示不知情。

根据读者提供的照片，一名清洁工事发后到现场清理地面，相信是清洗血迹。

 

住在11楼的张姓居民说，妻子早上七时许出门时，听见楼下传来喧闹声。她一开始没想到是坠楼事件，直到后来看见有警方和民防人员到场，才觉得事有蹊跷。

“将近8点时，我看到楼下有五六个人在哭泣，相信是死者的亲友，但看上去都是生面孔。”

62岁的周姓居民说，早上听到楼下传来哭泣声，后来也有附近邻居提起这件事。她在这里住了近30年的她也说：“这座组屋近年来很多人搬走了，很多新邻居则跟大家并不熟络。”
