Camper
I find that buying a packet of chilli and some herbs like rosemary just for cooking a 2 person meal to be wasteful. Usually open the packet, use a handful of it and the rest were left to rot in fridge. Chilli is incredibly hard to plant but if you do well, it will give you a steady harvest. Perhaps like 5 chilli a week. Enough for a small family. Also planted 2 pots of asparagus. Needs 1 more year to start harvesting. Then over CB i moved over to hydroponics planting. Thought we will run out of food supplies lol. Anyway cilantro is growing, my 奶白 flowered. Waiting for it to dry to collect the seeds for replanting. 7

Ducks will be better actually. Almost 1 egg per day. Sometimes 2 per day. Hens dont lay as many eggs. Maybe if i move overseas in the future i will do all this. Camper
@sketchish I cant find my ikea tray. But the net pot is around same height. Water level about half of tray. Gentle water flow will do, to prevent algae overgrowth and mosquito breeding. Light wise, it is only the red and white led from what i see. No need full spectrum led. If you want, i have a pair of full spectrum led light bulbs to give away.
Standing Birdy
Why put in dark place and use led? Place by sunny window should be enough light for top two tiers at least? Edited August 5, 2020 by Standing Birdy

So cannot put in a place with too much sunlight.

Used to grow lemongrass. I use the leaves to boil water to drink. Market bought lemon grass, cut the top and leave around 10cm of the bulb. Fill a glass of water, place the cut lemon grass inside the glass. Leave it under the sun for around 2 weeks. Add water as required. Once rooted just plant into soil. Very easy. Same rooting method for rosemary and basil.

Haha i find it easier to buy lemon grass essential oil from iherbs 😅 Mainly use the herbs for cooking only. The lemongrass drink for cleansing body toxins. Quite good actually.

Never had to change water just need to top up as it runs down. I had a few systems too. There will be iron deficiencies eventually. So need to add iron tablets occasionally. Singapore can buy tilapia fry from farmers actually. But needs a fairly large system to sustain. In future if i ever move overseas then i will explore this again. These days unavoidable if you want to keep cost low. Soil base problems are mostly the pests. Everyday is a battle with the pests for my harvest. This was my chilli plant before i revived it 😅
