actually the genes of a typical sgporean is rebellious but suppressed, considering he is the descendant of either a southern tiong anti-qing bandit, orang laut pirates who fought the european/majapahit colonizers to protect his spice trade or the maratha anti-mughal  rebels.

 

LKY did a good job social re-engineering by honoring a social contract that promises and delivered economic growth in return for complete obedience while at the same time, he promoted the idea that a PAP-led govt knows best. however, by 2004, many shrew social observers saw that this was not the case and pointed out the many faults of the loong loong govt such as the unsustainable casino economy, the lack of investment on smrt system in favor of cost-cutting etc.

 

but these voices r largely drowned out as the brain-washing by LKY was more than complete thru state propaganda that loong loong and his merry men r the smartest in whole of sgp and the steady economic growth of 2005-2012 blinded the super majority of the people.
