Unraveling Mystery: Malaysian Wife Vanishes After Expressing Desire for Divorce, Leaving Family and Authorities in Suspense

We all know that marriage takes immense work from both parties. Sadly, some marriages may go through unexpected twists and turns after many years of holy matrimony.

A Malaysian couple, Lin Zhen Shun and Yang Shi Qing, who have been working in Singapore for over a decade, now find their relationship at a crossroads.

Lin, a 39-year-old baker hailing from Malacca, Malaysia, and Yang, a 36-year-old from Bentong, Pahang, had shared both their personal and professional lives in Singapore for more than ten years.

In a poignant tale of marital strife, the once harmonious relationship took a tumultuous turn over the last three years.

The strains in their relationship led to Yang’s decision to end the marriage, despite Lin’s earnest attempts to salvage what remained.

The situation took a somber turn when Yang left their home with nothing but the clothes on her back.

Wife has been Missing Since November

Yang, employed as a waitress, mysteriously went missing on 3 November 2023, almost immediately after expressing her desire for divorce and leaving their married house.

Distressed by her abrupt disappearance, Lin initiated a search that led to perplexing discoveries.

Lin told Lianhe Zaobao that despite his best efforts, his wife’s phone remained unreachable, and messages sent to her went unanswered.

Even her family was unable to establish contact with her, causing Lin to grow increasingly anxious and concerned for his wife’s well-being.

When Lin visited her workplace, she was reported to have stopped working there as well. Adding to the mystery is her unexplained absence from social media platforms, raising concerns about her welfare and intentions.

There have been no reported sightings of Yang since 3 November 2023.

What baffles Lin even more is that she had departed without taking any of her personal belongings.

Both Yang’s husband and family members become increasingly worried that she might have fallen victim to a scammer or found herself in a life-threatening predicament.

Faced with mounting confusion and anxiety, Lin decided to take action.

On 7 November, four days after Yang first went no contact, Lin reported his wife’s mysterious disappearance to the police.

This prompted an official investigation into the perplexing case.

The police have confirmed the receipt of the report and are actively engaged in probing the circumstances surrounding Yang’s disappearance.

Missing Wife’s Sister Speaks Up

Sister of Lin’s wife, 39-year-old Yang Shi En, told reporters that the sisters frequently keep in contact via text despite not seeing one another often. Her younger sister only stopped replying to her messages on 3 November.

She was perturbed by this unprecedented change in behaviour, prompting her to reach out to her sister’s husband a few days after losing contact with her.

Upon doing so, she was shocked to learn from him that his wife had left their home and had even quit her job.

Yang Shi En informed reporters that when she inquired about the last time Lin had seen his wife, Lin continuously altered the dates, initially mentioning 27 October, then switching to 30 October, and settling on November 3, confusing her.

Yang Shi En, who resides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, had crossed the border to search for her missing sister.

She expressed her and her family’s deep desire for her sister to share whatever burdens she had been withholding, and to return home safe.
