The_King
A man has observed 'rampant' bird feeding for months at Yishun Street 72. Stomper Concerned Citizen shared that this has been going on between Blocks 731 and 732 for months despite banners put up by the town council to discourage people from feeding the birds. "Bird feeding is rampant in this ghetto part of Yishun," he said "Due to the feeding, there are a lot of bird droppings everywhere in the estate." He shared photos and a video of a flock of pigeons feeding on slices of bread left for them on Oct 15. He also showed how 'dirty' the neighbourhood was with photos of bird droppings he had taken on Oct 18. The Stomper added that he has reported the matter to the town council and National Parks Board (NParks). In response to a Stomp query, Nee Soon Town Council (NSTC) said it is aware of this issue. "We have referred the case to NParks who will take the necessary enforcement measures," an NSTC spokesperson said. "As part of the town council's ongoing educational efforts to discourage pigeon feeding, we have put up pigeon feeding banners and standees at the mentioned hotspot area. "Our property team is also working with the COP (Citizens on Patrol) and Enforcement Team (ET) to patrol the areas. "We are monitoring the situation and will step up on efforts to deter bird feeding in the area. "We will continue to work closely with our partners to tackle the bird feeding issue." Under the Wildlife Act, it is illegal to feed any wild animal, including pigeons, in any place. First-time offenders can be fined a maximum of $5,000 while repeat offenders face a maximum fine of $10,000. 1
