Rockstar Confirms Grand Theft Auto Six Is On Its Way

Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that a new Grand Theft Auto is on its way. 

As yet, the company hasn’t shared any details about the game, but has assured fans development is ‘well underway’. 

In the latest Grand Theft Auto community update, Rockstar said: “With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. 

“With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.

“We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details."

The statement doesn’t mention a possible release date, but PC Gamer predicts that it's likely to drop sometime between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024. 

Earlier this month, an analyst from investment banking firm Jefferies said the game would be released in the financial year of 2024. 

 

The analyst’s prediction was based on a press release from Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive in which it revealed: “Looking ahead, the combined company is expected to deliver a 14 percent compound annual growth rate… over the three-year period from Take-Two's Fiscal Years 2021 through 2024."

The analyst was quoted as saying ‘there are only a handful of titles that can...provide management with the confidence to put out such a strong guidance; we believe there is at least one Rockstar IP set to be released by FY24’. 

Which, if accurate, would mean the release lands at some point between the two dates mentioned above.

Back in November, Rockstar Games delighted fans by releasing the highly-anticipated remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition features an overhauled UI and improved gameplay features that make it feel more like GTA V.

Strauss Zelnick, boss of Take-Two, explained earlier last year that remastering the classics had taken priority over bringing out a new title.

"Remastering has always been a part of the strategy," he said. "We've done differently than the competition - we don't just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we're launching it on.

 

"So, we improve the technology, we upgrade the visuals, and we make performance enhancements. And that's why I think our remastered titles typically do so well."
