I'd forgotten about another one of the budget grinders - the Varia VS3 This one uses a conical burr system instead of flat burrs - similar to the wildly popular Niche Zero. Will be fine for AP/FP and also espresso. Not sure how it fares for espresso cos haven't tasted myself, but for Aeropress and filter, the quality is below the DF 64 (with specialised filter burrs) and about on par with the DF 54. But this one better built. Also, this is a stepped grinder while the DF 54 is stepless. So it is easier to remember grind settings and go back to them with the Varia. With the DF 54 you have to fiddle around cos there are no exact markings or notches

You need to mod it quite a lot. As in, it has issues with retention, noise, etc. Would advise against it. All of the DF64 models come with choice of different burrs - some burrs are more suited to non-espresso brews (coarser grinds), some burrs more suited to espresso (finer grind size). There are some general purpose burrs that are neither here nor there but then that defeats the purpose of a larger flat burr grinder. DF54 burrs are kinda like general purpose too - but at that price point, cannot complain. That's why moi saying you need a hand grinder first to get used to daily brewing and then deciding which electric grinder is best for your needs. If you remove the Robot from your list of future purchases, you should be fine with the DF54 ba .. French Press and Aeropress will let you extract more caffeine from your X grams of coffee each day. Robot will make a concentrated brew but it will contain a lesser amount of caffeine.
