  1. KUALA LUMPUR: Three lucky punters struck it big when they walked away with a whopping RM12.6 million from two consecutive Sports Toto draws on February 28 and March 2. The first winnings saw a RM10.1 million Toto 4D Jackpot 1 being won and shared by two winners from Negri Sembilan and Sarawak respectively on February 28. The lucky winner from Negri Sembilan said this has given him a fresh start after he was declared bankrupt six years ago. "I had to take a loan to do my heart surgery 6 years ago and I went bankrupt after I stopped working. "God has given me a second chance by winning the jackpot so that I can have a fresh start," he said. The unemployed 45-year-old said he planned to donate part of the winnings to charitable bodies after obtaining a discharge from bankruptcy. He bought a System 3 ticket and his pair of winning numbers – "5952 & 5777" won him RM5,054,618.40 and an additional RM336. The second winner from Sarawak, a 41-year-old teacher, said he won the jackpot by betting on 5777 and 8135, which included a combination of his old license plate. "I have stopped driving the old car but I would still bet on its registration number. I am very grateful that this old car (registration number) still brings me luck after all these years. "My family was very happy when they heard about the great news last night. We plan to save the winnings for our children's education expenses," he said, adding that he would continue to serve as a teacher despite becoming a millionaire. The winner spent RM2 on a Toto 4D Jackpot ticket to win RM5,054,618.40. Meanwhile, on March 2, a 69-year-old retiree from Johor won the RM2.5 million in the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 by betting on the phone numbers found in a flyer given to him. "I was not interested at all with the product that the promoter was trying to sell me but the promoter's phone numbers in the flyer had inspired me to bet on these numbers – 2888 and 5015. "And they turned out to be my lucky numbers! I have decided to reward the promoter with a big ang pow later," he said. The winner bought a System 3 ticket and won RM2,540,405.40 as well as an additional RM336. The winner added that he would share the winnings with his family. https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2021/03/672001/bankrupt-teacher-retiree-strike-big-sports-toto-draw
  2. SINGAPORE - Residents were startled by a loud bang after 45kg of chlorine powder was poured into the public sewers by a swimming school. A maintenance keeper at the site in Jurong East had discarded it without realising it would cause a reaction. The Happy Fish Swim School worker acted at about 8.30pm on Friday (March 5), after noticing a strong smell from the chlorine drum, which had been in contact with moist air. No injuries or damage were reported. School founder Tan Jian Yong said the maintenance keeper "took the initiative to discard the chlorine powder into the sewage without knowing that it will cause issues". He wrote on Facebook: "Chlorine is very reactive to germs, bacteria and other chemical compounds which can be found in general sewers. As a result, it inevitably caused a chemical reaction. A loud sound alarmed neighbouring residents." Mr Tan said the school's operations were unaffected and classes would run safely as normal. He added that the maintenance keeper was taken to hospital for a check- up. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at about 8.35pm. Firefighters used a water jet to mitigate the presence of gas produced by the chemical reaction. A spokesman for national water agency PUB said a "large amount" of calcium hypochlorite had been discharged into the sewers. The chlorine compound is commonly used as a disinfectant or bleaching agent. The spokesman said the mishap had not affected the sewerage system or quality of used water, which flows to reclamation plants for treatment. "PUB is investigating the incident and continues to monitor the situation closely," he added.
