    • New Zealand Customs Service estimated that the methamphetamine seized could produce up to 922,500 doses, with a potential street value of NZ$5.53 million (S$4.1 million). (PHOTO: The Straits Times) A 33-year-old unemployed woman has been arrested in New Zealand after being found with 18.45kg of methamphetamine in her luggage while travelling from Singapore, with the drugs estimated to be worth about S$4.1 million. In a statement on 6 Jan, the New Zealand Customs Service said the woman, a New Zealand national, arrived at Auckland Airport on 4 Jan and was directed to Customs officers for further checks. "During a search of her baggage, Customs officers found 18 individually vacuum-sealed packages containing a white crystalline substance. Testing confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine," the agency said. Customs estimated that the drugs seized could be broken down into as many as 922,500 doses, with a potential street value of NZ$5.53 million. In response to queries from The Straits Times, Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said it had established that the woman was travelling on a flight to Auckland that transited through Singapore. "The flight did not originate from Singapore," a CNB spokesperson said, adding that it was "inappropriate for CNB to comment further" as the case is being investigated by New Zealand authorities. The New Zealand Herald reported, citing court documents, that the woman had taken Singapore Airlines flight SQ285. Customs Auckland airport manager Paul Williams said: "Regardless of whether you know what’s in your bag, if it contains illegal drugs, you will face arrest." For more on the drug incident, read here.
