The_King Posted November 21, 2019 Share Posted November 21, 2019 SINGAPORE — The proportion of Primary 6 pupils eligible for the secondary school Express course fell to 66.3 per cent from 66.6 per cent in 2018, following a dip in this year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results. The Ministry of Education (MOE) revealed the statistic in a media release on Thursday (21 November), as pupils collected their results from their respective primary schools. Out of a total of 40,256 Primary 6 pupils who had sat their PSLE this year, 39,622 have been assessed as suitable to progress to secondary school. This means that, for a fourth straight year, the percentage of students who progressed to secondary school held steady at 98.4 per cent. Of those who sat the PSLE, 66.3 per cent are eligible for the Express course, 21 per cent for the Normal (Academic) course, and 11.2 per cent for the Normal (Technical) course. These pupils will have to submit the their choice of secondary school via the Secondary 1 Internet System, which will be accessible from 11am on Thursday until 3pm next Wednesday (27 November). They can also submit their physical option forms through their primary schools during these times: 11am to 3pm on Thursday, 9am to 5pm on Friday, and from Monday to Wednesday. MOE has advised that when choosing secondary schools, pupils – in discussion with their – should consider schools with cultures, programmes and environments that are best suited to their learning needs and interests. There are 634 pupils (1.6 per cent) who did not qualify for any of the secondary-school courses. They may choose to re-attempt the PSLE next year, or apply to Assumption Pathway School or NorthLight School for a more experiential and hands-on learning approach. The Secondary 1 posting results will be released on 20 December.
