The_King Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Approximately 2.4 tonnes of seafood items, such as batang fish, red grouper fish and prawns, were seized from a landed residential property at 9 Toh Avenue. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) uncovered the illegal seafood processing facility in a targeted operation on Oct 27 last year. Investigations revealed that seafood supplier 11th Street had used the residential premises to operate a processing establishment without a license. Illegal processing and storage of meat and fish at unlicensed facilities pose a food safety risk. The company was fined $16,000 on Tuesday (Nov 7) by the court for illegally processing and storing seafood products in unlicensed premises. In Singapore, all meat and/or fish processing facilities and all storage facilities for meat and/or seafood products must be licensed and are required to meet SFA’s requirements and food safety standards. These licensed establishments are also routinely inspected by SFA, which will continue to step up enforcement checks. Offenders who illegally process meat and fish shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both. Offenders who are in possession of meat and/or fish products which had been processed in an unlicensed processing establishment shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $50,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both. 2
