https://www.forbes.com/sites/ericrosen/2019/09/04/the-worlds-most-visited-city-is-bangkok/#73ab433cd262 The World's Most-Visited City Is Bangkok Eric Rosen Travel Mastercard has released its Global Destination Cities Index, which ranks 200 cities around the world with the most international visitors. The list is based on the card issuer’s proprietary analysis of publicly available spending data and visitor numbers. The results, which include information on the most-visited cities as well as consumers’ spending habits, are telling. For the fourth consecutive year, Bangkok topped the cities index with the most international overnight visitors – 22 million in all. Coming up at numbers two and three were Paris and London, respectively, with around 19 million international overnight visitors each. All the cities in the top 10 hosted more international overnight visitors than last year, except for London, which saw a four percent drop. The forecast for 2019 also predicts growth for the coming year, with Tokyo experiencing the largest uptick as a result of hosting the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics. The report also looked at the past 10 years of data to pick out a couple other interesting trends. First, growth in international travel has been consistent, with arrivals compounding at 6.5 percent year-over-year since 2009, and spending growing an average of 7.4 percent per year. For the fourth year in a row, Bangkok was the world's most-visited city. GETTY Despite the increasing popularity of smaller cities, major metropolises have maintained their dominance on the list, and the top 10 destinations have remained mostly consistent over the past decade. To wit, Bangkok, London and Paris have been the top three cities every year since 2010, with Bangkok ranking at number one six out of the seven past years. New York is also a fixture on the top 10 list, with 13.6 million overnight visitors in 2018. Finally, cities in the Asia-Pacific region have experienced the largest increase in international visitors since 2009 with an average 9.4 percent growth rage. By comparison, Europe, which ranked second, only grew 5.5 percent. Mastercard attributes this growth mainly to the explosion of Mainland Chinese travelers – the country has jumped up from eighth to second place among the countries of origin to the 200 destinations ranked in the study. The only country that sent more travelers out into the world was the U.S. With all that in mind, here are the rankings of the top 10 global destination cities of 2018. - Bangkok: 22.78 million - Paris: 19.1 million - London: 19.09 million - Dubai: 15.93 million - Singapore: 14.67 million - Kuala Lumpur: 13.79 million - New York: 13.6 million - Istanbul: 13.4 million - Tokyo: 12.93 million - Antalya, Turkey: 12.41 million Travelers spent the most nights on average in Antalya – 14, to be exact – followed by New York with 7.9 nights, London and Istanbul with 5.8 nights, and Kuala Lumpur with 5.7 nights. As for dollars spent over the year and per day, here were the top 10 cities. - Dubai: $30.82 billion, $553 per day - Makkah (Mecca), Saudi Arabia: $20.09 billion, $135 per day - Bangkok: $20.03 billion, $184 per day - Singapore: $16.56 billion, $272 per day - London: $16.47 billion, $148 per day - New York: $16.43 billion, $152 per day - Paris: $14.06 billion, $296 per day - Tokyo: $13.77 billion, $196 per day - Palma de Mallorca, Spain: $12.69 billion, $233 per day - Phuket, Thailand: $12.01 billion, $247 per day The top 10 cities by visitor numbers include destinations that attract a mix of business and leisure travelers and are also major international gateways both for international flight routes as well as connecting travel within their respective regions. The most visited cities span the gloe. MASTERCARD The overlap with the spending list is just seven cities, with Makkah, Palma de Mallorca and Phuket knocking out more business-driven destinations thanks to strong leisure markets. Also worth noting is that Mastercard projects 10.02 percent year-over-year growth in visitor numbers and 12.74 percent in spending in Tokyo for 2019, the highest of the cities on the list, but also 9.87 percent for Kuala Lumpur and 8.14 percent for Istanbul. Phuket and Bangkok should also see strong spending growth for 2019, with 9.16 percent and 8.67 percent, respectively. Mastercard utilized third-party data and conducted its own analysis to determine the numbers for 2018 as well as its 2019 projections. As with any study of this kind, however, the eventual statistics are sure to be affected by geopolitical developments, economic news, and events within the aviation and hospitality industries. Still, certain trends pinpointed seem sure to continue, including the explosion of travel by the Mainland Chinese population, both within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, and the dominance of major international cities of the overall most-visited list. The challenges these cities will confront in the face of ever-increasing numbers are myriad. Among them is developing the infrastructure to handle all these new visitors including public transportation and accommodations, providing amenities and services for travelers from new regions to take advantage of, and broadening security policies and procedures to ensure the safety of their populations and visitors. Equally important will be providing outlets and goods through which they can capture those hard-earned traveler dollars. Looking at trends from the past decade of international travel should be especially useful for accomplishing these goals as well as directing the experience and nature of the travel experience for the many more international visitors cities across the globe are sure to welcome in the future.
  3. https://bgr.com/2019/09/05/iphone-11-leak-photos-show-final-design/ These leaked iPhone 11 images might inadvertently be our best look yet at Apple’s new iPhones We’re now just days away from the biggest smartphone launch of 2019. There are plenty of exciting new phones that have hit store shelves in recent months, like the new Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ from Samsung. There are also plenty more in store for us, such as the Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro, Huawei Mate 30 Pro, and even the Galaxy Fold if you don’t mind spending $2,000 on a foldable smartphone with a terrible design that will be obsolete in just a few months time. As great as all (or at least most of) those phones sound, none of them will even come close to approaching the hype surrounding the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Also, needless to say, none of them will come close to achieving the sales numbers Apple’s next-generation iPhones will inevitably do. Even as iPhone sales continue to decline with the rest of the market, Apple will still sell tens upon tens of millions of iPhone 11 units in their first few weeks of availability alone. Apple already sent out invitations to its big iPhone announcement event that’s set to take place just 5 days from now, so there’s not much waiting left before Apple fans finally get to feast their eyes on the new iPhone 11 series. Of course, nearly everything there is to know about the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max has already leaked, and that includes the phones’ designs. But as we’ve mentioned a few times before here on the site, just about all of the leaked images we’ve seen so far are completely wrong, because they show new iPhone 11 models with the same design features as older iPhones. As we’ve learned from multiple inside sources with solid track records, however, that’s now what Apple’s new iPhone 11 models will look like at all. Just in case you missed our explanations in the past, here’s the short version: people who have rendered the new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max so far are lazy. The slightly longer version is that Apple is making some big design changes to its iPhone 11 lineup in 2019 that aren’t shown in the design files that were stolen from the Foxconn factory where Apple’s next-generation iPhones are being assembled. Those files are merely a raw blueprint, and they don’t show the subtle details of Apple’s design. So when graphic designers rendered them and when accessory makers built 3D models of the new iPhones, they decided to just make them look like Apple’s current-generation iPhone XS and XR handsets. Here’s an example: Those iPhones look nice, but they’re not an accurate representation of the iPhone 11 models Apple will unveil next week. First, the most accurate Apple insider out there — TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo — has been saying for nearly a year that Apple’s iPhone 11 series will feature new frosted glass on the back, not the same old clear glass shown in the image above. Subsequent reliable reports have detailed other big changes in Apple’s iPhone 11 design, such as a new round mute switch like the one on the iPad Pro, color-matched plastic in between the rear camera lenses rather than black plastic like we’ve seen on earlier iPhones, a molded glass camera bump rather than a raised metal frame, and even the deletion of the “iPhone” logo from the backs of Apple’s new iPhone 11 models. So we know Apple’s next-generation iPhone models won’t look like the dummy units shown above, but what will they look like? Well, they’ll sort of look like this: iPhone and MacBook accessory maker Nood has already created ultra-thin protective cases for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and it has posted marketing shots of the new cases wrapped around next-generation iPhone mockups. As it turns out, these new product shots might inadvertently be our best look yet at Apple’s next-generation iPhones. Why? Because the ultra-thin, semi-transparent plastic that Nood and other brands use to make these slim cases actually looks a lot like frosted glass. Here are a few more images to tide you over until Apple finally unveils the iPhone 11 series on September 10th and releases all three new phones on September 20th:

  5. Huawei Mate 30 Pro Looks Gorgeous in New Renders — Four Cameras and All By Jesus Diaz 3 hours ago Phones Strong features packed into a neat design This is the new design of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. On the front it is all screen except for a small notch. On the back, it looks like a compact camera, which makes sense given Huawei's photo expertise and because it is rumored to have “breakthrough” video features. Love them or hate them, Huawei is making some excellent iron lately. At least according to master rumormonger Ice Universe, who usually is spot-on on his predictions. In a tweet, the galactic cat pointed out that he is “looking forward to a breakthrough in video shooting”. If this means that Huawei has implemented its best-of-class depth of field and low-lighting photographic abilities into the Mate 30 Pro’s video mode, users will be very happy. But for now, we only know for sure how the phone will look, thanks to these exclusive renders by @onleaks for Indian tech site Pricebaba. The renders are in line with a recently leaked marketing poster made public by Ice Universe. I’m digging the back design. Instead of doing the ugly square pirate patch found in early renders of the iPhone 11 and the Pixel 4, Huawei has chosen to embrace a symmetric camera look that reminds me of the Canon Ixus compacts, but more elegant and ultra-thin. I like the sharply cut top and bottom ends too. According to the rumors, the camera module will have two 40-megapixel sensors, plus an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a Time-of-Flight sensor capable of capturing three-dimensional information of the scene to make depth of field effects. The first 40MP sensor will allegedly have a lens with variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/1.6, with a RYYB pixel layout, same as the current king of the photographic hill, the P30 Pro. According to Sony — the sensor manufacturer — the RYYB layout collects 40% more light than standard RGGB sensors. A RYYB sensor uses can capture there times more light as a standard RGGB sensor, since the Y pixels are made of two red and green pixels each. The second 40MP sensor is the same as the first, but with a 120-degree ultra-wide lens. The telephoto will offer a 5x zoom, according to the rumors posted by reliable leaker @Onleaks. On the front the rumor is that there will be three sensors, perhaps to enable facial id and selfie depth of field effects. The display — which is a curved OLED similar to the one used in Samsung Galaxy phones — is estimated to be a whopping 6.6 inches, again according to @Onleaks. The entire package will be allegedly powered by the latest HiSilicon Kirin 990 chip, which has a built-in modem. The phone will include a 4,500mAh battery with 25W wireless charging and fast 55W wired charging. It’s all pretty solid — except there is no headphone jack. The bottom has a USB Type-C pro, microphone, speaker, and the SIM card tray. It is expected that the Mate 30 Pro will run an open source version of Android. Google confirmed that it has not licensed its apps for pre-installation in the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro following the U.S. Department of Commerce’s “Entity List” that bans American companies from doing business with the Chinese company. Mate 30 users will be able to download the apps on the internet like they do in China — where Google apps are not included in Huawei terminals — installing an app shop like Aptoide, Google Play, or directly from any APK repository, like APKmirror.com. It’s a nuisance, but an acceptable one. We will know more about the Mate 30 line when it is announced on September 19 in Munich, Germany.

  8. It's official: the Huawei Mate 30 phones are launching on September 19 By David Nield 2 hours ago Mobile Phones Mark your calendars. We've already heard plenty of rumors and speculation around the Huawei Mate 30 Series phones, but here's something official: a launch date of Thursday September 19, with the unveiling happening at an event in Munich. That's per the official Huawei Mobile Twitter account, so it's time to mark it on your calendars, book some time off work, or do whatever else you need to do in preparation. The launch date tweet and accompanying preview site are encouraging us to "rethink possibilities" – so make of that what you will. There's also extensive use of what looks like a camera lens graphic, suggesting the Mate 30 phones will come packing some serious photo-taking capabilities. We will of course be bringing you all the news as it happens from the Mate 30 Series event, and no doubt we're in line for plenty more leaks and rumors between then and now. Some of the shine of the launch event is likely to be taken off by the news that the Mate 30 phones probably won't be able to use Google apps and services, thanks to the ongoing trade disputes between the US and China. It's possible that Google will apply for an exemption for the Huawei Mate 30 handsets, but if not, Huawei is going to have to rely on its own HarmonyOS. We won't know exactly how this is going to play out until we see the phones themselves. We're expecting both a Mate 30 and a Mate 30 Pro, at least. Previous leaked images point to a circular housing for the rear-facing camera, which could pack in as many as four individual lenses. Other rumored improvements include faster wireless charging, but most attention is going to focus on exactly what software and apps the Huawei Mate 30 phones come running. https://www.techradar.com/news/its-official-the-huawei-mate-30-phones-are-launching-on-september-19
  9. https://www.macrumors.com/2019/08/30/iphone-11-pre-order-release-date-rumor/ iPhone 11 Lineup Tipped to Have Familiar Rollout: September 13 Pre-Orders, September 20 Launch Friday August 30, 2019 7:52 am PDT by Joe Rossignol Apple yesterday invited the media to a special event on Tuesday, September 10 at the Steve Jobs Theater, where it is widely expected to unveil three new iPhones alongside an Apple Watch refresh and other announcements. A tipster who claims to work at a major carrier has since provided MacRumors with internal communication that suggests the rumored iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models will be available to pre-order Friday, September 13 ahead of deliveries to customers and in-store availability starting Friday, September 20. MacRumors has received similar tips echoing these dates in recent weeks, so there is a good chance they are accurate. iPhone pre-orders have begun two to three days after Apple's event for years now, followed by availability a week later, so these dates are hardly a surprise but good to know nevertheless. Unlike the iPhone X in November 2017 and the iPhone XR in October 2018, however, all three 2019 iPhones are expected to launch simultaneously. The tipster requested anonymity and asked us not to share the screenshots of the internal communication.
