  5. Three men charged with rioting while armed with knives in Chinatown SINGAPORE: Three men were charged with rioting while armed with knives in a clash between two groups over a "relationship dispute" in the early hours of Sunday (May 10). Noor Najat Alwi, 20, Muhammad Roslan Mohamed Rumli, 29, and Muhammad Farid Surian, 20, were each charged with one count of rioting while armed with a deadly weapon. According to charge sheets, the incident occurred at about 3.30am on May 10 at the 16th floor of Block 101 Upper Cross Street, People's Park Centre. Preliminary investigations showed that the riot occurred due to a "relationship dispute between a member of each group over a woman", police said. Two groups were named in charge sheets, with five men squaring off against five others. The three charged men belong to the first group, some of whom were armed with knives, court documents state. The police on Tuesday asked for information on the remaining two men listed in charge sheets as part of the first group: Muhammad Syukri Muhammad Iskandar and Muhammad Ilham Noordin. The prosecutor called for all three charged men to be remanded, in order for investigations to be carried out, for raids to be conducted, exhibits to be seized and for other accomplices to be traced. The judge granted the request, and the men will return to court on May 21. If found guilty of rioting while armed with a deadly weapon, they can be jailed for up to 10 years and caned. Closed-circuit television footage of the brawl went viral after the incident, with police first arresting three suspects before launching a manhunt and nabbing another nine people. One of the suspects is being investigated for harbouring another two of the arrested men, the police previously said. All those arrested will also be investigated for breaching safe distancing measures under COVID-19 laws. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/chinatown-rioting-fight-men-charged-armed-knives-12731394 29 years old still gang fight with ginna pis over girls... 6. 1st death incoming... Vietnam determined to save British pilot, avoid its first COVID-19 death HANOI: Vietnam has mounted an all-out effort to save the life of its most critically ill novel coronavirus patient, a British pilot who works for Vietnam Airlines, the national carrier. Through aggressive testing and a mass, centralised quarantine programme, the Southeast Asian country has kept its tally of coronavirus cases to just 288 and has reported no deaths. Little expense has been spared to try save the life of the 43-year-old man, identified only as "Patient 91", who caught the coronavirus at a bar in the southern business hub of Ho Chi Minh City in mid-March, state media reported. More than 4,000 people connected to the cluster were tested, with 18 of them found to be infected with the coronavirus. While most have recovered, the British pilot is on life support and his condition has deteriorated significantly. On Tuesday, the health ministry held a meeting with experts from top hospitals and decided that the only way to save the man's life was with a lung transplant. His case has garnered national interest in Vietnam, where the government has won broad support for its campaign to contain the coronavirus. On Thursday, state media said 10 people, including a 70-year-old military veteran, had volunteered themselves as lung donors, but had been turned down by state doctors. "We are touched by their good intentions, but current regulations don't allow us to transplant lungs donated by most living people," a representative of the Vietnam National Coordinating Centre for Human Organ Transplantation (VNHOT) told the Tuoi Tre newspaper. The patient has just 10 per cent of his lung capacity left and has been on life support for more than 30 days, Tuoi Tre said. Deputy health minister Nguyen Truong Son told media last month that Vietnam had imported specialist medicine from overseas to treat blood clots in the patient, but to no avail. Vietnam has spent more than 5 billion dong (US$200,000) trying to save him, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported. In March, Chinese state media said it had successfully carried out a double lung transplant on a coronavirus patient, a procedure it hailed as a significant method of treating the disease's most stricken victims. Vietnam is hoping to capitalise on its success fighting the coronavirus by positioning itself as a safe place to do business as international manufacturers look to diversify their supply chains away from China. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/covid19-vietnam-british-pilot-avoid-first-death-12732128 70 years old veteran jin brave jin satki... offer to donate lungs..

  8. Focus on COVID-19 battle, France tells China after Taiwan warning PARIS: France dismissed Chinese warnings on Wednesday (May 13) about selling arms to self-ruled Taiwan, saying it was implementing existing deals and that Beijing should focus on battling the COVID-19 pandemic. China's foreign ministry warned Paris over a contract for Taiwan, which is planning to buy weapons from Paris as part of an upgrade to a French-made warship fleet bought 30 years ago. China says Taiwan is part of "one China", and that this principle must be accepted by any country with which it has diplomatic relations. Arms sales to Taiwan are always highly sensitive and regularly prompt a strong reaction from Beijing. The French foreign ministry responded by saying it followed a "one China" policy as agreed with Beijing in 1994 and continued to urge both sides to hold dialogue. "Within this context France respects the contractual commitments it made with Taiwan and has not changed its position since 1994," the ministry said in a statement. "Facing the COVID-19 crisis, all our attention and efforts should be focused on battling the pandemic." The timing of the dispute is awkward for Paris, which has ordered millions of face masks from China because of the coronavirus outbreak. Last month, the French foreign ministry summoned China's ambassador over posts and tweets by the embassy defending Beijing's response to the pandemic and criticising the West's handling of the outbreak. "COMBAT NEEDS" Taiwan is mostly equipped with U.S.-made weapons, but in 1991 France sold Taiwan six Lafayette frigates, to China's anger. France also sold Taiwan 60 Mirage fighter jets in 1992. Taiwan said last month it was seeking to buy equipment from France to upgrade the ships' missile interference system. In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said China resolutely opposed any arms sales to Taiwan. "We have already expressed our serious concern to France," he told a daily news briefing. "We again urge the French side to abide by the one China principle and withdraw the arms sale plan to Taiwan to avoid harming Sino-French relations." Taiwan's Defence Ministry quoted the navy as saying it was following related procurement regulations for the arm purchase to meet its "combat needs". It declined further comment. Taiwan media reported that Taiwan was proposing to spend around NT$800 million (US$26.8 million) on the DAGAIE missile interference system from French firm DCI-DESCO. Taiwan says it needs to upgrade its armed forces to deal with a growing threat from China, which has stepped up military drills near the democratic island. China describes Taiwan as its most sensitive and important territorial issue, and has never renounced the use of force to bring the island under its control. Taiwan has shown no interest in being ruled by autocratic China. Source: Reuters https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/focus-on-covid-19-battle--france-tells-china-after-taiwan-warning-12728994
  9. SG's failure was because they forgot about the bangla workers... because the banglas were hidden in dorms. The first bangla case appeared in feb (seletar aerospace), but they still didnt care about bangla in dorms... and went about preparing for the election. In march, the banglas are infecting PAP's precious CECAs at mustafa... forcing mustafa shutdown... then they traced cases back to bangla dorms and notis many banglas reporting sick... so they start testing... and the bangla cases erupted!! back to question, how come other countries so little cases? no test, no positive results, no case. so simple!

  12. Family of Punggol Field murder victim arrived too late to catch his dying words SINGAPORE - The family of the man who was fatally stabbed on Sunday night in Punggol Field arrived too late to catch his last words in hospital. The man has been identified as Mr Tay Rui Hao, 38. He is believed to be married and lived a few streets from where he was found stabbed. According to Mr Tay's posts on social media, he worked in the local branch of a sportswear company. His father told Chinese dailies Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News on Tuesday (May 12) that the family is shocked by what happened. The father was quoted as saying that his son had texted him earlier in the day to tell him he was heading out for a run as he was feeling cooped up at home due to the circuit breaker measures. That was the last he heard from his son, Mr Tay's father reportedly said. He said Mr Tay left home at about 10pm and was brutally attacked just two streets away from his flat. Mr Tay is understood to live with his wife and their dog. Mr Tay's father said that he, his wife and daughter rushed to Sengkang General Hospital at about 1am on Monday but they were too late. He described his son as easy-going and talkative, and said what happened was "very unjustified". "I hope any eyewitnesses will quickly contact the police, so that my son can rest in peace," he was reported as saying. A former colleague described Mr Tay as a funny and lovable person who readily gave advice and supported his subordinates. Ms Nur Aziyati Johari, 28, said Mr Tay, who was an area manager at a retail store, got on well with his younger subordinates and advised them a lot on work. He was supportive of her decision to resign and move overseas for a new position, she recalled. “He was like our father and best friend,” said Ms Nur Aziyati, who now works in human resources. The attack is unacceptable, she said, adding that she hoped justice will be served. Mr Tay also switched jobs and was working for a local branch of a sportswear company , according to his social media account. Mr Tay was found by a resident at about 11pm on Sunday. The resident had heard cries of help and when he went down, found Mr Tay with stab wounds along Punggol Field, near the Matilda Sundeck HDB development that is under construction. He was wearing jogging shoes and was in a football jersey. The resident told The Straits Times that Mr Tay was seen struggling to get to the back of a bus stop, where he collapsed on a grass patch. The police were called and he was sent to hospital where he died. The case has been classified as murder. Police officers, including those from the Gurkha contingent, were seen combing the vegetated area all through Monday, and the bus stop was cordoned off. Mr Tay's body was cremated on Tuesday afternoon at Mandai crematorium. Members of the media, including The Straits Times, tried to observe the wake, but were not allowed to enter. Security officers stationed at the entrance said visitors were allowed in only if they had a note given by the family to join the wake. Under safe distancing measures, a maximum of 10 people at a time are allowed to attend cremation services. Anyone with information can call the police hotline on 1800-255-0000 or submit information online. Police said all information will be kept strictly confidential. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/family-of-punggol-field-murder-victim-arrived-too-late-to-catch-his-dying The victim has been identified as Mr Tay Rui Hao, 38.PHOTOS: LIANHE ZAOBAO, FACEBOOK Police officers from the Gurkha contingent combing the vegetated area on May 11, 2020.PHOTO: LIANHE ZAOBAO A resident said Mr Tay Rui Hao was seen struggling to get to the back of a bus stop, where he collapsed on a grass patch. Andre Chen Si'En, 29, and Gervan Wong Jun Heng, 24, were charged on Tuesday with one count each of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by common intention to Douglas Wong Wei Hao. According to charge sheets, the attack took place at about 3am at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery on Sunday. Chen is accused of using a knuckleduster to punch the head and body of the victim, while Wong allegedly used a metal baton to attack his head and body. The alleged assault left the victim with injuries including: A 4cm laceration on his head, a cut forehead, swollen lips, multiple abrasions on both arms, a deformity in his left arm, as well as multiple abrasions, puncture wounds and lacerations on both legs. The police said in an earlier statement that they were alerted at 5.40am to a case of a 30-year-old man who was found with multiple injuries including head lacerations and a fractured hand at Bishan Street 12. The charge sheets did not indicate how the victim ended up in Bishan following the attack in Choa Chu Kang. He was taken to hospital while conscious, and the police identified the two perpetrators and arrested them within 10 hours of the report being lodged. If found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, the two men can be jailed for life, or up to 15 years and fined or caned. Both men were remanded for investigations. Gervan Wong faces more than 20 other charges, that he was handed before Tuesday's case.
