Red Dot United (RDU) marked its sixth anniversary on Saturday, 19 September 2026 with a sold-out fundraising gala dinner and National Day celebration at Pearl Garden Restaurant, SAFRA Jurong, attended by 230 guests. All 23 tables for the dinner were sold barely one week after they were opened for sale. The evening's clearest signal came from RDU Secretary-General Ravi Philemon, who told guests that the party's slate at the last General Election was not a benchmark to be celebrated. Speaking towards the close of the dinner, Philemon said the scale of the task ahead should not be underestimated, noting that a party serious about forming a government would need a substantially larger team than the 15 candidates fielded at GE2025. "If that is our ambition, then there is certainly no chest-thumping over fielding 15 candidates. We will have to field 50 or more," he said. He added: "I am going to work very hard to field a strong team at the next General Election — a team large enough to form a government." Chairman sets out ambition to govern In his opening address, RDU Chairman Dr David Foo said the party's next phase must go beyond the traditional role of an opposition party merely providing checks and balances. "Any political party that enters politics must aspire to form the government of the day," Dr Foo said. "Not because power is an end in itself. But because real change requires the ability to govern." He added that governing requires the ability to make decisions, implement policies, take responsibility and build a Singapore that works better for all Singaporeans. Dr Foo said the party had spent the period following GE2025 strengthening the organisational and policy structures needed for its next stage of development. These include expanding the role of RDU's Youth Wing, developing its shadow-ministry structure, and building AltGovSG as a platform to scrutinise government policy and develop policy alternatives. He also pointed to RDU's Shadow Budgets and its Youth Manifesto as part of the party's effort to develop policy positions outside election periods. Six years from 11 members RDU was founded on 26 May 2020 with 11 members and contested its first General Election weeks later in Jurong GRC. Dr Foo said the party has since grown to be supported by more than 300 volunteers. At GE2025, RDU fielded 15 candidates across four constituencies, the second-largest opposition slate after the Workers' Party. Awards for volunteers and candidates A significant part of the evening was devoted to recognising service, volunteerism and contributions to public life. RDU presented its Most Inspiring Youth Award to Sharad Kumar, its youngest candidate at GE2025, who led the Youth Wing in producing its Youth Manifesto. Long-time volunteer Jimmy Tan San Tek received the Most Dedicated Volunteer Award, while artist and GE2025 candidate Ben Puah received the Most Inspiring GE2025 Candidate Award. National Hero Award conferred on M. Ravi RDU inaugurated its National Hero Award at the dinner, conferring it posthumously on human rights lawyer M. Ravi. The award recognised his work over more than two decades on issues including equality before the law, personal liberty, freedom of expression, discrimination, access to justice and the death penalty. M. Ravi's nephew, Kesavan, received the award on behalf of the family, together with civil society activist Jolovan Wham. M. Ravi Book Award for young Singaporeans In conjunction with the award, RDU established the M. Ravi Book Award, intended to encourage young Singaporeans to read widely, think critically, and develop the confidence to question and engage seriously with the world around them. Three young Singaporeans — Muhammad Aqmal bin Mohamad Haris, Atufaaliya Binte Shahnazar Alam and Chong Zhe Hao — were selected as its inaugural recipients. Each received support towards books of their choice, as well as a copy of M. Ravi's autobiography, Kampong Boy. Party describes dinner as 'one more small step' Philemon said building a larger team would require RDU to continue expanding its pool of people, resources and public support. He described the sixth-anniversary dinner as "one more small step" in that process, and said the party's confidence was grounded not simply in ambition, but in the organisation and people it had built over the past six years. The evening concluded with RDU's sixth-anniversary toast, marking what the party's leaders described as its transition into the next stage of organisational and political development. In a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon, 20 September 2026, RDU reiterated that the journey ahead would demand more people, more resources, stronger policy capacity and broader public support. "Last night was not an endpoint," the party wrote. "It was one more small step towards building a credible political alternative that is ready to take responsibility for Singapore's future."
