Haven't watched the show, but the trailer hasn't peak my interest...   Imho, extra-sensory perceptions are like muscles. Most people are born with it (unless you're born with issues), some are born with stronger ones. You can train a perception like a muscle, or you can intentional weaken it through external means.    As for the idea that special powers will reduce your lifespan, if you all day    don't go out touch grass, eat right, exercise,etc...
