The situation that KPA Engineering workers find themselves in is not new. TWC2 has seen similar cases where errant bosses do not participate in the mediation process, or do not pay up despite receiving court orders. We have seen workers who instead receive financial assistance from humanitarian funds in lieu of their owed salaries. But let’s be clear: charity and support ≠ fair treatment. Rather than falling back on compassion and financial assistance, we need a systemic fix: a salary insurance scheme which guarantees that workers receive their fair wages. The shocking thing?
