    • SINGAPORE: A 16-year-old male teenager who allegedly evaded a roadblock and continued to flee on foot after falling off his e-bike has been arrested, said police in a news release on Monday (Jun 3). The incident happened on May 25, when Traffic Police officers were conducting a roadblock along Guillemard Road at about 2.55am. The police said a rider of a power-assisted bicycle (PAB), or e-bike, was directed to stop for checks as he was not wearing a helmet. However, he failed to stop, and sped off. "While doing so, he knocked down a police road barrier, fell off his PAB, and continued to flee on foot," said the police. "After a brief chase, the officers detained and subsequently arrested him." Police investigations revealed that the teenager possessed duty-unpaid contraband cigarettes at the time. The rider's e-bike, believed to be illegally modified, was seized by the Land Transport Authority. Investigations are ongoing. The offence of evasion of a roadblock carried a fine of up to S$10,000, a jail term of up to seven years, or both. The offence of altering a PAB to be non-compliant carries a fine of up to S$20,000, a jail term of up to 24 months, or both for first-time individual offenders. For buying, selling, delivering or possessing duty-unpaid cigarettes, offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and Goods and Services Tax evaded, or jailed up to six years, or both. 16 years old doing this kind of nonsense? School holidays now ah?
