Homelander
One year and three months after it landed in a private park by BTS Nana, open-air market Artbox will welcome its last guests today. A popular destination packed with stalls serving food, booze and tchotchkes since May 2019 at Chuvit Garden at the corner of Soi Sukhumvit 10, Artbox gave short notice in a recent announcement that it would cease operations Aug. 31. No reason was cited, nor new location announced. Calls to the market’s organizers went unanswered. In 2018, the man who bulldozed vendors to open the park, Chuvit Kamolvisit said he was closing it for developer Land and Houses to build a large mixed-use project including offices, retail space and a 400-room hotel. Artbox opened after that project hit a snag. There was no word on whether that development would now move forward. Artbox found instant success when it first debuted in 2015 at the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station with its flea market-style stalls, live performances and friendly hangouts. It then moved around other Bangkok venues such as Chatuchak Market and MRT Queen Sirikit. In 2017, it traveled overseas to take place at Singapore’s Marina Bayfront.
