Previously, a similar promotion from GV required an age of 55 and above to qualify. This change sparked some discussion on Wednesday (13 March) when a netizen posted on Facebook group Complaint Singapore that they were unaware of the change when they bought tickets to a movie on Tuesday. The netizen claimed that the website wasn’t updated with the change, but the screenshot shared was of the promotion details on the website for Council for Third Age (C3). C3 is an agency that promotes active ageing in Singapore and the administrator of the National Silver Academy (NSA) and the Silver Volunteer Fund (SVF). A check on C3's website listed the duration of the GV promotion from 1 Jan 2016 to 31 Dec 2023. and the qualifying age as 55 and above. In response to queries from Yahoo Southeast Asia, Golden Village confirmed the change and said it was “changed from this year”. The GV website also states that the promotion is for “senior citizens aged 60 years and above” and is valid from 2 January 2024 to 30 December 2024. Age requirement for senior citizen promotions from other cinema chains in Singapore Yahoo reached out to Shaw Theatres and Cathay Cineplexes to check on their existing senior citizen promotion. Shaw Theatres confirmed that there isn’t any change and the age requirement remains at 55. Similarly, Cathay Cineplexes' website still lists the age requirement at 55. "As outlined in our current policy, individuals must be 55 years of age or older to be eligible for the Senior Citizens Tickets," a spokesperson for Cathay Cineplexes told Yahoo.
