PETALING JAYA: A primary school teacher was ordered by a magistrates’ court in Kuching to enter a peace bond of RM1,000 over actions deemed inappropriate, including asking a female student to call him “daddy”.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered the 52-year-old teacher to execute the bond for six months pursuant to Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

A peace bond is one where the person promises to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

According to the New Sarawak Tribune, the accused, a science and physical education teacher, had ordered the 12-year-old pupil to see him in his office at the school on Aug 10 at 4.40pm.

He had asked the pupil to close the door behind her and proceeded to present her with a box of plastic flowers and a toy. He also asked her to call him “daddy”, instead of “teacher”.

The incident was made known to the victim’s mother by a fellow parent. It was reported that the daughter had told four of her friends about the incident.

The victim’s mother then lodged a police report and the teacher was arrested at the primary school on Aug 24.

Inspector Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted. The teacher was unrepresented.
