The_King
A man who saw a school textbook being used to cover up a broken piece of window glass took to social media to share the seriousness of the issue. In a Facebook post, a netizen who goes by the name of Kevin Chung wrote: “I walked passed a HDB flat and saw this. This family likely could not afford to replace the broken glass”. He added that some families have to decide between a second meal for the day or paying the utility bills at the end of the month. In his post on May 17, he wrote: “Some families are deciding between a 2nd meal for the day or to pay the utility bill end of the month. Poverty is everywhere when you walk the low income flats in Singapore”. His post drew a lot of comments from concerned netizens. Here’s what they said: Netizens asked if the man had stopped by to help after taking the photo. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on Sunday (May 1) that Singapore could experience a recession within the next two years, particularly due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. “At the start of the year, we were cautiously optimistic about our post-Covid recovery. But the outlook has clouded,” said Mr Lee to unionists at Downtown East and those who attended the May Day Rally. He admitted that the country is emerging from the pandemic into a world that has not only been altered by Covid-19 but faces significant global security challenges. “We can feel the headwinds, even as we sense new opportunities opening up,” he noted in a Facebook post on Sunday. He added that the “global headwinds” set Singapore back by S$8 billion a year. https://theindependent.sg/man-sees-school-textbook-used-to-cover-broken-window-glass-of-hdb-flat-says-poverty-everywhere-when-you-walk-the-low-income-flats-in-spore
