Five Guys Closes Ion Orchard Outlet, Now Down To Just One Singapore Branch The American burger chain once had three branches here, but only its Plaza Singapura eatery remains. American burger chain Five Guys quietly shuttered its Ion Orchard outlet on 6 Sept, leaving just one remaining outlet in Singapore at Plaza Singapura. Now-defunct Ion Orchard outlet Photo: The Ordinary Patrons/Google The closure may come as little surprise to some, with the Ion Orchard outlet often appearing fairly quiet on weekdays compared to the surrounding eateries. The brand is known for its hearty gourmet burgers with fresh handmade patties, hand-cut fries and milkshakes with customisable toppings. Five Guys’ hulking burgers come with a heftier price tag than typical fast food options, with prices starting from $14.50, similar to Shake Shack’s. Five Guys outlet gone, but no replacement tenant yet The Ion Orchard outlet had been operating since 2022. Five Guys first entered Singapore in 2019 with its Plaza Singapura outlet, before expanding to Ion Orchard and Nex (which has also since closed down) over the years. For now, the former Five Guys unit at Ion Orchard remains empty, with no updates from the mall on what will take over the space. The unit is now noticeably bare, with the burger chain’s signage and fixtures removed. “We will not be looking at a relocation” 8days.sg reached out to Zouk Group, the local franchisee of Five Guys in Singapore, to ask about the closure of the Ion Orchard outlet and whether the brand has plans to reopen the eatery elsewhere. A spokesman for Zouk tells 8days.sg: "We confirm that we elected to close Five Guys at Ion on 6 September. We will not be looking at a relocation, but encourage our Five Guys fans to visit our outlet at Plaza Singapura." Five Guys’ lone Singapore outlet at Plaza Singapura Photo: Jason Young/Google Business as usual at its last remaining outlet For now, fans can still get their Five Guys fix at Plaza Singapura, serving its signature burgers, including the Bacon Cheeseburger ($22.50) and Cheeseburger ($18.50), as well as hot dogs, Cajun fries and milkshakes. Plus free-of-charge freshly roasted peanuts in their shell. Its customisable burgers (from $14.50) come with your choice of 16 types of toppings such as grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapeño peppers and pickles, while its milkshakes (from $11.80) can be mixed with add-ons including Oreo pieces, peanut butter and salted caramel. Five Guys is at #01-32 Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Rd, S238839. Open daily 11am - 10pm. More info via website and Instagram.

A Yishun resident was alarmed when he received a package containing items resembling dried leaves, bark, and an unidentifiable brown object, reporting the incident to the police. Ridzwan, the 25-year-old resident, said he received what he thought was a wrongly mailed letter in mid-September, with two other parcels arriving at his doorstep in late September. When the second parcel arrived, he noticed that there appeared to be sand or soil leaking from it, and the family opened it out of curiosity. Ridzwan later shared a TikTok post on Sept 30 showing him opening a pink cardboard box and panning the camera over its contents. Items resembling dried leaves and flowers are stuffed into the box, while a brown, irregularly shaped object with a seemingly bark-like texture is placed on top of it. Strips of pink fabric are laid over the items, and the package is wrapped in honeycomb packing paper. A person in the background comments that the package “smells”, before Ridzwan tosses the contents into a trash bag. ‘Looks like black magic’: Resident alarmed Speaking to Stomp, Ridzwan said the family was “in shock” when they realised what was in the box. “I would say what’s inside looks like some black magic stuff. Almost like jenglot,” he added, referring to a small, mummified humanoid creature from Indonesian mythology which is believed to be used for revenge or as a good luck charm. “First thing I did after opening was threw them below my block straight away. I prayed in my heart,” he added. A photo Ridzwan provided of the first letter showed a graphic of a ghost raising two middle fingers. Another photo, of the third package, showed a vandalised brochure from a non-profit organisation. The brochure is streaked with red, illegible markings, while an object resembling a piece of fabric stained with a red substance lies on top of it. Contacted return address In a follow-up post on Oct 1, Ridzwan said he contacted the homeowner of the return address on the parcels. The woman had apparently told him that a third party was using her home address as the return address, and that the parcels were a form of harassment. She added that she had been receiving similar packages. After exchanging details with her, Ridzwan lodged a police report. Police report filed In the comments section on Ridzwan’s TikTok post, a netizen suggested that it was a form of Jelangkung — a traditional Indonesian folk ritual of communicating with the dead — while others alluded to black magic. Several netizens also urged him to seek help from an ustaz, saying it was “very dangerous spiritual stuff”. Ridzwan said the religious teacher advised him to make a police report while continuing with his prayers. In response to Stomp’s queries, the police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
