- Tony entered an unlocked apartment at Lorong 16, Geylang
- He went into the bedroom of a 27-year-old Vietnamese male tenant (construction worker, identified as Mr Nguyen)
- He hid under the tenant's bed
Discovery (~7:20 PM)
- Tenant returned home from work
- Found bedroom door half-closed and blocked by a table; saw the room was ransacked and in disarray
- Took photos to send to his roommate, then spotted Tony lying under the bed
- Tenant left the room and called a colleague for help
Confrontation & Threats
- When the colleague arrived, Tony had come out and was trying to flee
- Tenant shut the front door to stop him from leaving
- First weapon: Tony pulled a penknife from his sling bag, swung it, and threatened to hurt the tenant if the door wasn't opened
- The colleague wrestled the penknife away
- Second weapon: Tony then produced a pair of scissors, held with both hands, and pointed them at the tenant again
- Tenant and colleague disarmed and restrained him until police arrived
