    • Domestic helper steals $210k from S’pore employer, buys condo and land in Philippines until she has nothing left   The employer claimed that the family treated the helper like one of their own and would even celebrate her birthday.    💸 https://stmp.sg/8MsF   @stompteam   Full Case Details: Domestic Helper Steals $210k from Singapore Employer   Source: Stomp / Shin Min Daily News | Published & Updated: Jul 18, 2026       👤 Key Parties   - Accused: Raguindin Alma Bassig, 47-year-old Filipina domestic helper - Victim: 54-year-old Singaporean employer, whose family she served since March 2016       📜 Background & Access   - Worked for the family of four in their landed home for over 10 years, with unrestricted access to all rooms including the master bedroom. - Discovered three safe keys in a jacket pocket in 2022, and found one unlocked the family’s safe holding large sums of cash and valuables.       🕵️ Theft Timeline & Details   Total stolen value: Over S$210,000 in cash and jewellery.   First Spree (2022–2023)   - Opened the safe at least 3 times when no one was home. - Stolen: Foreign currencies (Euros, Pounds Sterling, Japanese Yen), plus luxury jewellery from Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari, gold, diamonds, jade and silver pieces. - Smuggled items to the Philippines on home leave; exchanged currency, sold or pawned jewellery, then bought condominium units, a car and farmland.   Second Spree (June 2024)   - Struck again while the family was away. - Stolen: Malaysian Ringgit, Vietnamese Dong, 12 gold bangles, two 24K gold necklaces, diamond jewellery set, two 999 gold coins and more gold ornaments. - Again disposed of items in the Philippines and spent the proceeds.   Capture (May 2026)   - Employer noticed missing cash in Nov 2025, initially thought it was misplaced. - Installed a motion-activated CCTV camera on May 27, 2026. Two days later, footage caught Alma opening the safe. Police were called, and she was arrested the next morning.       ⚖️ Court Outcome   - Pleaded guilty to two counts of theft by a servant; three other similar charges were considered in sentencing. - Sentenced on July 17, 2026 to 3 years and 2 months’ imprisonment. - No stolen items have been recovered, and no restitution made so far. - Prosecution will pursue a confiscation order to recover the equivalent sum stolen; the judge noted the employer may also file a civil lawsuit.       💬 Statements from Both Sides   Employer’s Account   - Alma earned S$1,200 monthly, above market rate, plus an annual S$2,000 red packet from the employer’s husband. - Family treated her like kin: celebrated her birthday, paid for her flights home, and even sponsored her husband and two children for a Singapore holiday in late 2025. - After arrest, loan sharks came to the house over her unpaid debts. She also falsely claimed to police she was underpaid. - Many pieces hold deep sentimental value, such as wedding gifts from the employer’s mother-in-law. She hopes to negotiate with Alma’s family in the Philippines to retrieve them. - “She was greedy… Shame on you, Alma!” she told the accused in court.   Helper’s Response   - Apologised to no one, pleaded with the court not to involve her family, and said she wanted to return to care for her mother. - Claimed she now has no assets or money left. The employer disputed this, saying Alma’s sister revealed she rarely sent money home to her mother, and spent all funds on luxury properties and vehicles.
