In a video posted on Instagram by property investor Mak Geng Yuan (@g.y.mak), 35, a Lee Hwa Jewellery flyer featuring the actor is held up for his daughter Gemma to see. A voice in the background asks: "Baby, who is this?" The camera then pans to Geng Yuan’s daughter, Gemma, who points towards her dad and replies: "Papa." Geng Yuan, who is kneeling in the background, can be seen smiling at her response. The amusing clip prompted one commenter to write: "Haha kids are honest. Can't lie. So it must be true." Geng Yuan also leaned into the comparison, captioning the video: "Bye guys! See you on Ch 8!" Speaking to 8days.sg, Geng Yuan said the video stemmed from a spontaneous family moment. His wife had previously asked Gemma who the man on the flyer was. When the toddler identified him as her dad, she decided to film the exchange the next time she asked. Geng Yuan said he found the mix-up particularly amusing as Gemma is already able to recognise familiar faces. "She knows her relatives and everything. But then for her to fall for a trick, it's kind of funny," he said. As it turns out, Gemma isn't the first person to think Geng Yuan resembles Desmond. Geng Yuan revealed that his mother-in-law, a longtime Mediacorp drama fan, first pointed out the resemblance years ago when he was dating his wife. He, however, isn't entirely convinced. "Honestly, I don't really see the similarity," he said, estimating the resemblance at just "20 to 30 per cent", mostly around the forehead area. While Geng Yuan does bear a slight resemblance to Desmond in the video, the similarity is less apparent in other photos on his Instagram account. When asked if he takes the comparison as a compliment, his answer was immediate. "Of course," he laughed. "He's good-looking, definitely." Interestingly, Geng Yuan said he gets compared to national distance runner Soh Rui Yong more often than the actor due to their similar lean build.   As a runner himself, Geng Yuan feels the resemblance is more convincing. "But he runs much faster than me. You'll see the difference on the track." As for what his wife thinks?
