🎨 Full Breakdown
Artist: Marcus Pang, 24, founder of Gazing Power Wash
What he did: On 31 May 2026, created “Heart of Mountbatten” — a heart + 2 birds, symbolising “Love conquers all” — outside Mountbatten MRT, using only rainwater + pressure washer (no chemicals, just cleaning dirty concrete to make art). Unofficial, volunteer project.
🚨 What happened
- ~6pm: SMRT staff approached — a commuter complained, thinking he sprayed chemicals on grass. Asked for permit; he said none needed. Staff allegedly said “This is Singapore bro”, held him, took photos/videos, called police.
- Police: confirmed no offence, advised get MP endorsement / busking permit next time; said he could continue. He left ~7.15pm.
- Next day (1 June): Art completely washed off — only that spot turned bright white, rest pavement still dark grey. Gone in <24 hours.
🗣️ Reactions
- Netizens: Furious, called it “next-level petty”. Post hit 955k+ views (IG), 200k+ (TikTok), 2.3k+ upvotes (Reddit).
- MPs invited him: Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC): “Come do it here!”; Shawn Loh (Jalan Besar): “Visit us!”; café offered free pastries.
- SMRT: Said they’re “flattered”, want to collaborate on official, longer-lasting art.
- Pang: “It’s the risk of guerrilla art”; will focus on Sengkang now.
📌 Bottom line
One complaint → artwork erased instantly; public overwhelmingly backed the artist.
