    • Anthropic, the firm behind the popular AI tool Claude, is looking to set up a presence in Singapore.   Open positions advertised online include an economic research role that could pay up to $331,200 annually.   https://str.sg/6nsm   Anthropic, the US AI research company behind the widely used assistant Claude, is setting up its first office in Singapore, joining rivals OpenAI and Google DeepMind in expanding into the region.   On June 4, 2026, it posted four new roles locally covering finance, product support, and economic research, confirming its formal entry. The positions:   - Asia-Pacific Head of Accounting: Build and lead regional finance/accounting teams across APAC; reports to Dublin headquarters. - Two Product Support Specialists: Serve as experts on Claude and related tools, handling enterprise and user inquiries. - Regional Research Economist: Partner with governments, academics, and industry to study AI’s economic impact and shape policy; pay S$307,200 – S$331,200/year including commission. Requirements: PhD in economics, strong research record, and Python proficiency.   All roles require minimum 25% in-office presence. Business records show Anthropic PBC Asia Pacific was registered locally on May 20, 2026, at 133 Devonshire Road.   Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC is a key investor: it first backed Anthropic in Sept 2025 (US$13B round), then led a US$30B Series G in Feb 2026. Latest funding values the firm at US$965B, ahead of OpenAI’s US$852B.   Since 2021, Anthropic has opened 12 offices worldwide, including Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia, driven by growing enterprise demand for AI tools. The expansion comes after its powerful Claude Mythos Preview model made headlines in April 2026 for finding critical vulnerabilities in major software, prompting global cybersecurity discussions and coordination between MAS and local banks.
