After 15 years, Jalan Besar’s Mun Chee Kee King of Pig’s Organ Soup will close on Feb. 28, following a 35% drop in sales since its 2024 relocation.
Owner David Tan, 60, said rising costs and declining business made him decide it was time to move on. The stall, set up in 2011, originally operated at 207 Jalan Besar before moving a short walk away to 65 Maude Road due to BCA-mandated repairs.
Tan has arranged new positions for his long-serving staff, while some foreign workers will return home. He thanked loyal customers, including early-morning taxi drivers, for their support.
The stall gained publicity in 2014 after Hong Kong critic Chua Lam declared its Teochew-style pig’s organ soup “not authentic,” sparking curiosity and more customers despite the critique.
Ocean Curry Fish Head from Toa Payoh will take over the Maude Road spot in mid-March. Tan is open to anyone wanting to continue his stall’s legacy and plans a world trip, including a South America road trip this July.
This is Truly SG
