another cons is oled suffer from HDR/SDR dimming issues. some say have to toggle HDR on and off if need to game but can be fixed with firmware and toggle HDR when needed
I did the exact same thing a year ago with the aw3422dw and the acer x34gs (very similar nano IPS panel) and…
I kept the acer. Deciding factor where in that order:
- Noise…. Having a monitor noisier that my PC was a deal breaker. Firmware upgrade should have been released to mitigated that today
- Fringing: texts were significantly clearer on the ips
- HDR hassle: turning it on & off repeatedly in windows to have it properly working in games bored me really quickly. HDR was also counterproductive in some of the games I played at the time (BF V) as it was more distracting in multiplayer
The IPS panel is not perfect; HDR is nowhere as good as the oled, it suffer from some vignetting effect, IPS glow, … What I feel like missing is the 240hz and the near instant response time from the oled panels.
I tested HDR again (on the acer), and I have to admit that the situation vastly improved since I first bought the Dell. Now alt-tabs with HDR enabled games do not take 10 seconds anymore.
What is the consensus for desktop now? Shall it run with HDR or just the games? And by auto HDR you mean that the game turns on & off HDR automatically?
