PETALING JAYA: A Year 4 pupil who was left in a critical condition after choking on a gummy candy he bought outside his school has died.
Fahmi Hafiz Fakhruddin, 10, of SK Sungai Dua in Butterworth, breathed his last at about 11pm at Penang Hospital, Berita Harian reported.
He will be laid to rest tomorrow morning, according to his aunt, Siti Farhani Fikri.
Fahmi, the older of two siblings, had bought the candy outside his school on Tuesday. He choked while chewing the candy and experienced breathing difficulties.
He managed to walk towards his teacher before collapsing.
According to Siti Farhani, Fahmi’s face had turned blue from a lack of oxygen after the candy got stuck in his throat.
Doctors informed her that Fahmi’s brain had been affected because of prolonged oxygen deprivation.
