Yep, this one does absorb but best is if can pass the water through it - then most efficient cos max out the contact surface area between water and charcoal, plus since the bed of charcoal is thick, it will filter out any small particulates too.   But that one got other problem - the canisters with charcoal are usually made from plastic.
