FAIL: Wheelchair ramp at new skytrain station leads commuters straight into roadside ditch

An exit at a new BTS station — one that was supposed to facilitate commuters in wheelchairs — went viral today, begging the question: who the hell designed this?

Popular Facebook page “Thailand Footpath,” which has posted numerous instances in which the country’s sidewalks have come up a bit (or a lot) short, yesterday shared the photos of the wheelchair ramp at BTS Sailuat, which opened just two weeks ago as part of the Green Line extension.

“Holy sh*t, when you come down from the elevator, you land straight into the bushes. What part of their brains did they use to come up with this?” wrote the page’s administrator.

Some netizens speculated that the responsible agencies only built the wheelchair exit because they were legally required to and didn’t care if it’s actually practical for disabled commuters.

Thus far, BTS officials have responded to the controversial photos by telling local outlet Matichon that they are only responsible for operating the trains, while the ramp was the work of the State Railway of Thailand. (Editor: Sounds about right.)

Regardless of who is responsible, one Facebook user has come to the rescue, helpfully offering a solution to the problem: a photoshopped version of the wheelchair ramp with a proper exit — you know, just in case it’s beyond the imagination of the authorities.
