Taiwan's AUO to end display production in Singapore this month

Taiwan's AUO is planning to focus more on microLED displays, an emerging technology that has caught the eye of Apple.  

 

AIPEI -- Taiwanese display maker AUO will close its production lines in Singapore by the end of this month, affecting up to 500 employees, as sluggish demand for LCD screens continues to bite, Nikkei Asia has learned.

The company has told equipment makers to move production tools from Singapore back to Taiwan, and has given some Taiwanese nationals working at the plant the option of transferring back home or moving to Vietnam, where AUO is expanding its manufacturing capacity for display modules, according to three executive-level sources at AUO suppliers.
