The primary factors that affect your income are Experience, Certification, Environment, Depth of Work, Dive Methods, Underwater Welding Equipment, Distance Offshore and Overtime. There are two primary types of underwater welders: Offshore Divers (welders) The starting salary of offshore underwater welder is between $40,000 – $60,000 and with 3-5+ years experience it can go from $75,000 – $100,000+ Onshore Divers (welders) The starting salary of onshore underwater welder is between $25,000 – $40,000 and with 3-5+ years experience it can go from $50,000 – $80,000 Saturation divers make up to $45,000 – $90,000 per month and over $500,000 annually. They receive “depth pay” which typically pays out an additional $1 – $4 per foot. Usually, it’s $1 per foot up to 100 feet, then it raises up to $2 per foot after that. Income is dependent upon the length and depth of their project plus tenure of the diver.
