Malaysian fresh graduates are not having a good day, or year in fact, due to the pandemic. With the scarcity of available job opportunities, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said graduates who have jobs now, even if the job doesn’t pay much, should be grateful as there are many graduates out there who are still unemployed.

Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, also pitched in with his take that while the salary received by most fresh graduates of RM1,000 to RM1,500 is not enough, he also encouraged job seekers to not be picky. Well, given these sombre statistics, it’s no wonder Facebook user, Nedumaran Elangovan decided to do a creepily accurate satirical post for fresh graduates.

In his post, he did a comparison for fresh graduates where he showed that working in Family Mart is better than working as an engineer in an SME. For starters, he said that to work in an SME, you need an engineering degree but for Family Mart, on the other hand, you just need to pass your SPM examinations.

Family Mart employee’s salary: RM1500 + RM150 shift allowance + overtime. Monthly take away salary average, RM 2,000 or more.

Engineer working in SME: RM2,200 fixed

The only requirement you need to work in Family Mart is to be able to read and write but to work as an engineer, you need to have your own transport, pay for your own Internet, must be available to work overtime and Mandarin speakers are preferred.

“Some perks of working in Family Mart is that you probably get to eat the leftover oden. The only perks you get working as an engineer is depression and mental illness.”

His final point was that you won’t accumulate any debt by working in Family Mart but to graduate as an engineer, you might need to get a PTPTN education loan of RM100K. After considering all this, Nedumaran said that the clear winner is Family Mart! As a disclaimer, he even added that his post is not a sponsored recruitment post by Family Mart Malaysia.
