The annual Star Awards honoring Singapore’s Chinese-language television industry will land at the airport for the first time this year.

The 26th edition of the major awards ceremony on April 18 will switch lanes by holding its red carpet event on the tarmac in Changi, against a Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Awards will be handed out at the HSBC Rain Vortex inside Jewel Changi Airport as well as the airport’s fourth terminal. The largely virtual event will be broadcasted live.

This year’s Star Awards will celebrate two years worth of Chinese-language television after skipping last year due to the pandemic. Actors Guo Liang and Quan Yifong will host this year’s ceremony. Among those nominated are Felicia Chin and Chen Liping for Best Actress as well as Pierre Png and Desmond Tan for Best Actor. Romance drama series A Jungle Survivor was nominated for six categories including Best Drama Serial.

Guest appearances include Taiwanese singer Ella Chen, Taiwanese actor James Wen, and Hong Kong actress Sandra Ng, as well as performances by Hong Kong singer Gigi Leung and local jazz singer Joanna Dong.

Star Awards was previously scheduled to take place on April 26 last year, before it ended up being postponed twice because of the coronavirus.
