  1. Hollywood actor James Caan passed away on Wednesday evening, his agent said. The 82-year-old was best known for playing Sonny Corleone, the oldest son of Vito Corleone, in the 1972 movie "The Godfather" and also starred as the writer held hostage by a fan in the 1990 film "Misery." "It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6," the actor's family said in a Tweet posted on Caan's official account. His family signed with the phrase "End of tweet," which was Caan's way of doing so while he was alive. The actor's publicist declined to provide any further details, including cause of death. Breakthrough with 'The Godfather' Caan began his acting career in Hollywood in the 1960s, with small roles in films by acclaimed directors such as Billy Wilder, Howard Hawks and Francis Ford Coppola. But it was with Coppola, in the film "The Godfather, that Caan would play the role of his life. In the movie, he plays Sonny Corleone, the hotheaded son of Vito Corleone, the Italian mafia boss known as "the godfather." The role landed him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. https://www.dw.com/en/the-godfather-star-james-caan-dies-at-82/a-62401483
  2. Suspect is in custody and Abe’s condition is unclear. With the Upper House Election approaching on 10 July, many politicians are out on the streets giving campaign speeches as is the custom in Japan. So too, was former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who resigned from office in 2020, citing health issues, but retaining his seat as a member of the House of Representatives. He was outside of Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, on 8 July, stumping for a fellow party-mate running in the area. Abe was on the road speaking among banners and a small crowd of supporters when he appeared to have collapsed at about 11:40 a.m. In the chaos that ensued, reports were unsure what happened. However, several posts on social media began to emerge, showing what appeared to be a man holding a gun pointed at the politician. Many people nearby also reported hearing shots. The man in his 40s was said to have been arrested immediately afterward, but the attack is said to have triggered a heart attack and Abe’s condition is currently being assessed. The sudden and brutal attack has left the country in shock with online comments amounting to little more than “What?!” and “Is this really happening?” In fact, even as I write this, the usual sounds of political speeches echoing through my window appear to have all gone completely silent. https://soranews24.com/2022/07/08/breaking-former-japanese-pm-shinzo-abe-shot-in-chest-reportedly-suffers-cardiac-arrest/
  3. Elden Ring took the world by storm earlier this year, but of the millions of players, one rose above the rest: Klein Tsuboi, AKA “Let Me Solo Her.” Weidling nothing but dual katanas and a pot on his head, he helped other players kill one of the game’s toughest bosses thousands of times. Now publisher Bandai Namco has finally gotten around to sending him an official swag box, complete with a personal thank you note and real life sword. “It’s here,” Tsuboi tweeted on Thursday alongside photos of the package he received. “Thank you Bandai Namco and Elden Ring for giving me this gift and congratulating me for being #LetMeSoloHer.” In addition to the sword and personalized note was a cloak like the one Melina wears and some other trinkets. The package is similar to the one Wheel of Time author Brandon Sanderson received earlier this year after praising the game at length, and while not unique, still includes a literal sword. Tsuboi started making waves in the Elden Ring community back in April. Players taking on the optional late-game boss Malenia would summon a random internet stranger to help them out. When Tsuboi was the one who showed up buttnaked, he’d tell the other player to “let me solo her.” And he would, making short work of the notoriously tough foe. As word of his deeds spread across Reddit and social media, he gained a reputation for his naked heroics. By May he’d soloed Malenia over 1,000 times. Elden Ring mods were made in his honor. A new FromSoftware legend was born. “I can still remember my first experience with the soulsborne series and almost quitting because of Iudex Gundyr in Dark souls 3,” Tsuoboi tweeted yesterday, after receiving his official recognition from the publisher. “I’m glad I persisted and went on to enjoy the game, because this community is one of the most passionate and dedicated people I’ve ever seen in a game, and I’m proud to be a part of it.” He went on to call out specific individuals within the community who had inspired him, naming Vaati, Fighter .Pl, IronPineapple, ChasetheBro, Zullie, LimitBreakers, and BonfireVN among others. It’s unclear what’s next for the Elden Ring star, but FromSoftware has said an expansion for the game is coming. The studio is also already hard at work on a number of new projects, at least one of which famed director Hidetaka Miyazaki said was nearly complete and could be announced in the not too distant future. https://kotaku.com/elden-ring-solo-her-malenia-fromsoftware-expansion-1849151918

  5. Not much good if your trading platform goes offline during trading hours is it? I lived through 10 mins of that, my head of dept didn't. It is still the same system keeping your pipe dreams smoking.
  6. You really don't want to know the state of the IT keeping your fragile sand castle afloat, been there done that.
  7. In every company I've joined so far: 1) You're asked to maintain an outdated system that didn't do the job properly even when it was brand new. 2) There are a million micro systems that have been created to "enhance" the system 3) Everything is breaking because nothing is proper 4) Millions of dollars are on the line. 5) You're IT, you're it, you are suppose to know everything 6) Some thing always breaks after hours and needs to be online before opening. 7) All your time is spent fixing something while your change requests pile up. 8) No budget
  8. TOKYO: The creator of popular Japanese manga franchise Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kazuki Takahashi, has been found dead in the sea, Japanese media reported on Thursday (Jul 7). Takahashi, 60, whose real name was Kazuo, was discovered wearing snorkelling gear and floating in the sea near Nago, in the southern island prefecture of Okinawa, early on Wednesday and identified a day later, public broadcaster NHK reported. Authorities are investigating his death. "Yu-Gi-Oh!", which means "King of Games", debuted as a serialised comic and ran from 1996 to 2004. It features a boy who solves conflicts using various games. It led to other series of Japanese comics known as manga, a form of comic or graphic novel with artistic roots in a traditional Japanese style, as well as video games and a card trading game that was popular around the world. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/yu-gi-oh-manga-creator-card-game-kazuki-takahashi-found-dead-sea-2794231
  9. IT keep hiring is because the burnout rate is extremely high. The 996 was already a norm decades ago in the local IT sector. Pay is like shit, work like dog, and they keep hiring foreigners who don't even know how to do basic operations to fill in the slots for half your pay. Just ask anyone who has worked in NCS before, how many frontliners have to sleep in the office for weeks on end. Most of my classmates are in other sectors now, all burnout by the pacing.
