By Blackburn Rovers FC Rovers are pleased to announce the signing of young French hot-shot Exaucé Mafoumbi from FC Nantes. The 19-year-old joins on a three-year deal through to June 2027, with a one-year option, signing the first professional contract of his career. Starting out with Orvault Racing Club at a young age, Mafoumbi joined Nantes in 2015 at Under-11 level and has posted prolific goalscoring stats over the last eight years, scoring 50 goals in his last 72 games in youth football. He has also gained experience of playing in the UEFA Youth League and helped Nantes win the Under-19 National Championship in France in 2022-23, defeating PSG in the final. The lightning fast forward will initially join Rovers’ emerging talent group, where he will hope to impress for Mike Sheron’s side as he looks to make the next step in his career into first team football. Mafoumbi becomes the third new forward to arrive at Rovers in the last 24 hours, following the signings of Makhtar Gueye from RWD Molenbeek and Yuki Ohashi from Sanfrecce Hiroshima, subject to international clearance and approval from the relevant football authorities. Welcome, Exau!

Blackburn Rovers confirm Yuki Ohashi as second summer signing Dan Barnes. Wed, 31 Jul 2024, 12:00 GMT+8·1-min read Rovers have signed striker Yuki Ohashi (Image: Blackburn Rovers) Blackburn Rovers have confirmed Japanese striker Yuki Ohashi as their second summer signing. The 28-year-old flew over to England over the weekend and completed a medical on Monday. He has now put pen to paper over a three-year deal at Ewood Park with an option for a further 12 months. Ohashi is viewed as a replacement for Semir Telalovic within the Rovers squad. The forward can link play and is a willing presser from the front. Signing players from overseas is always a risk but it is understood to be a low-cost deal for Rovers. The recruitment team believe this is a risk worth taking with a small, six-figure fee spent due to a clause in Ohashi's contract. READ MORE: WHAT ROVERS CAN EXPECT FROM OHASHI AS EXPERT GIVES VIEW The 28-year-old started out at Shonan Bellmare, winning the J League Cup in his first season with the club. He went on to make more than 100 appearances and enjoyed a prolific 2023 campaign, scoring 13 goals in 23 league matches. Ohashi then headed to Sanfrecce Hiroshima and was the club's top scorer in the current campaign with 15 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions, helping them climb to fifth in the table. Makhtar Gueye also headed to Ewood Park on Tuesday evening to bolster John Eustace's strike department ahead of the upcoming campaign. Sam Szmodics and Sam Gallagher were both absent from last weekend's friendlies against Morecambe and Wigan. Szmodics has been attracting interest from Ipswich as the Tractor Boys prepare for life in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Stoke have been looking at Gallagher who has one year left on his deal at Ewood.

A flavour too far: Health Ministry raps ice cream chain for Pei Pa Koa offering Malay Mail Tue, July 30, 2024, 5:26 PM GMT+81-min read Malay Mail KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — The Health Ministry has instructed an ice-cream chain to stop selling a limited edition Pei Pa Koa flavoured ice cream, saying it was an offence to serve the cough syrup this way. The ministry said Section 13B (2) of the Food Act 1983 prohibited the adulteration of edible items with medicines, which constituted an offence punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of no more than RM20,000, or both upon conviction. It said officers from its Food Safety and Quality Program (PKKM) confirmed that the chain was serving ice cream with the Pei Pa Koa cough syrup, which was registered with the Drug Control Authority as a traditional medicine with contraindications for pregnant women. “Therefore, all premises involved in the sale of this product are ordered to immediately cease the sale of all such products for the safety of consumers and the public,” the ministry said in a statement today, “Additionally, all advertising media, including e-commerce platforms and social media, must stop broadcasting advertisements for this food item.” The ministry did not name the chain in question but the Inside Scoop ice cream chain announced a limited edition flavour yesterday with the Pei Pa Koa flavour. However, the chain appears to have pulled this off its menu, as the page for the flavour now shows that the product could no longer be found.

Kim Jong Un Is Already Training His Preteen Daughter to Take Over Country Josh Fiallo Wed, July 31, 2024, 5:29 AM GMT+82-min read KIM Jae-Hwan/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images The North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has begun training his pre-teen daughter to succeed him despite her age, South Korea’s spy agency claimed this week. That revelation has sparked further questions about the authoritarian leader’s health, as recent reports from South Korean intelligence said the 40-year-old is suffering from obesity-related high blood pressure and diabetes. Should something happen to Kim, it appears Kim Ju-ae may be next in line to lead the Hermit Kingdom. The preteen isn’t Kim’s only child, but she’s been dubbed the “respected daughter” and “beloved child” by state media. The Kim family has ruled over North Korea since its founding in the late 1940s, but has never has a woman—or minor—been at the helm. Ju-ae, who is either 11 or 12, has begun appearing beside her dad frequently at public events this year, often smiling as she’s seated next to or standing by him. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his daughter Kim Ju-ae visited a greenhouse in March—one of many recent events that featured the girl. KCNA via Reuters More South Korea’s National Intelligence Service held a briefing in Seoul on Monday where they made the revelation about Ju-ae’s potential to be the next leader of North Korea. They said they made their estimation based off an analysis on the frequency and nature of her public appearances and the way state propaganda has covered them. Much of North Korea first learned about Ju-ae in November 2022, when she turned up to a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. Since then, she’s been spotted mingling with top generals at military events. Lee Seong-kwon, a South Korean politician who attended the briefing, said Monday that “more than 60 percent of Kim Ju-ae’s activities included accompanying her father” to military demonstrations and events. “Pyongyang is teaching Kim Ju-ae to be heir apparent, indicating she’s the most likely successor,” Lee told reporters after the briefing. Kim Ju-ae attend a military demonstration with her dad this spring. KCNA via Reuters Kim reportedly has two other kids, with Ju-ae being the middle child. He has kept much of his personal life under wraps, however, and the definitive names and ages of his children have not been confirmed. Even with Ju-ae’s public appearances, North Korea’s succession remains murky. Many have reported that, should Kim die or bow out of the position, that one of his brothers could step forward to claim the throne.

28 animals caught by glue traps in June, more than half the traps of unknown origin ENVIRONMENT LATEST NEWS No regulations exist for the purchase of do-it-yourself glue traps by the public. 25% of animals caught by glue traps laid by pest control companies: ACRES Despite the best efforts of animal welfare groups, glue traps continue to pose a danger to wildlife in Singapore. The issue came to the forefront again when no less than 28 animals were found caught in glue traps in the month of June. Source: ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) on Facebook 28 animals caught by glue traps in June include 13 mynahs The dire figure was revealed by the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) (ACRES) in a Facebook post last Saturday (27 July). The 28 animals were ensnared over 30 days last month and comprised: Source: ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) on Facebook ACRES what to find out more about glue traps ACRES said the round-up was part of its “deep dive” into the monthly data surrounding glue traps to find out a number of things: What drives the use of the inhumane and indiscriminate glue traps. Who actually puts them out. Where they are found. This was done since the authorities released new guidelines on glue traps. Source: ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) on Facebook It was referring to the revised guidelines that were issued in a circular to pest control operators on 15 May, reported The Straits Times (ST). They stipulated that glue traps must stick to a maximum size of 35cm by 25cm, cannot be used in outdoor or semi-open areas and have to be checked daily, among other recommendations. More than half of glue traps that ensnared animals in June ‘shrouded in mystery’ However, ACRES noted that only 25% of the animals trapped in June were found on traps laid by pest control companies. Another 20% of cases involved traps set up in open areas. Animals were even caught in covered traps, it said. Strangely enough, for more than half the cases, the origin of the glue traps was unknown to those who reported them. As such, they “remain shrouded in mystery”, ACRES added. Source: ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) on Facebook No regulations on DIY glue traps: ACRES ACRES said no regulations exist for the purchase of do-it-yourself glue traps. Thus, they are “often purchased by the public for use” it added, saying, Glue traps cause animals prolonged suffering, agonising deaths: ACRES ACRES has been advocating against glue traps for years, saying they cause prolonged suffering to animals and are indiscriminate in their targets. On 9 May, it renewed its call for glue traps to be regulated in Singapore, saying animals caught in glue traps suffer starvation, dehydration, and suffocation, eventually enduring “agonising deaths”. Those rescued face a “gruelling” recovery process and often succumb to their injuries or require extensive medical intervention. Source: ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore) on Facebook Since 2014, nearly 2,000 animals have been saved from glue traps — 25% of them protected species, said ACRES. In a survey of 1,000 respondents late last year, 61% said they would discard live rats found caught in glue boards, it added. If they found wildlife in the glue boards, almost half of those surveyed would throw the animals away. Only 10% said they would alert animal welfare groups or the National Parks Board (NParks).
