    • Career conversion programmes, up to S$1,600 in training incentives to help taxi, private-hire drivers amid AV transition       https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/autonomous-vehicle-career-conversion-training-incentives-taxi-phv-driver-6237936?cid=internal_sharetool_androidphone_07072026_cna Singapore is rolling out a comprehensive transition package designed to support taxi and private-hire vehicle (PHV) drivers as autonomous vehicles (AVs) and artificial intelligence increasingly reshape the point-to-point transport landscape. Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling announced the initiatives in Parliament on July 7, 2026, emphasizing a proactive stance to ensure technology rolls out at a pace acceptable to residents without destabilizing livelihood options. ### 1. New Career Conversion Programmes (CCP) Launching in the **third quarter of 2026**, these initiatives are designed to help drivers transition seamlessly into highly structured alternative jobs. They will be administered by the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF).  * **AV Specialists Pathway:** Trains current drivers to take on specialized technical and operational roles within the autonomous sector. These include **safety operators, remote operators, and fleet management positions**. To heavily reduce the financial burden of switching fields, these programs come with **up to 90% salary support**.  * **Public Transport Professionals Pathway:** Offers a customized, streamlined route for taxi and PHV drivers who want to pivot into the public transport sector specifically to become **bus drivers**.  * **Partnerships:** Developed by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) alongside the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), NTUC, Grab Singapore, and ComfortDelGro. Training will be overseen by the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) alongside industry partners; Grab's training arm, **GrabAcademy**, will serve as a registered training provider. ### 2. Up to S$1,600 Training Incentive (Pilot Scheme) A brand-new training incentive framework will target drivers looking to upskill through short-form courses before committing to full career switches.  * **Duration:** A 3-year pilot commencing in **January 2027**.  * **Incentive Payout:** Eligible drivers will receive **S$20 per hour** of training.  * **Cap:** Capped at 80 hours over the pilot phase, translating to a maximum payout of **S$1,600 per driver**.  * **Scope:** Drivers can select from roughly 2,000 SWDA-supported courses.  * **The Rationale:** This S$20/hour rate is intentionally significantly higher than standard national training allowances. The government structured it this way to specifically offset the steep opportunity costs unique to drivers, helping them cover vehicle rental fees and lost road income while sitting in a classroom. ### 3. Outreaching & Guidance Ecosystem To ensure drivers are aware of the safety nets, the government and NTUC are scaling up targeted outreach programs. Beyond physical roadshows and career fairs, a central digital resource page has officially been launched directly on the SWDA website for drivers to browse courses and check eligibility.   https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/autonomous-vehicle-career-conversion-training-incentives-taxi-phv-driver-6237936?cid=internal_sharetool_androidphone_07072026_cna   Singapore is rolling out a comprehensive transition package designed to support taxi and private-hire vehicle (PHV) drivers as autonomous vehicles (AVs) and artificial intelligence increasingly reshape the point-to-point transport landscape.
