BEIJING: China's population fell for a fourth consecutive year in 2025, dropping ⁠by 3.39 million to 1.405 billion, a faster decline than in 2024, official data showed on Monday (Jan 19). The total number of births in China dropped to 7.92 million in 2025, its lowest ‍in decades, from ⁠9.54 ‍million in 2024.  The number of deaths rose to 11.31 million from 10.93 million ⁠in 2024, figures from China's National Bureau of Statistics showed.  China's ‍population has been shrinking since 2022 and is ageing rapidly. This has complicated Beijing's plan to boost domestic consumption and rein in debt, with hundreds of millions of people set to leave the workforce at ‌a time when pension budgets are already stretched.  Marriages in China plunged by a ‍fifth ‌in 2024, the biggest drop on record, with more than 6.1 million couples registering for marriage, down from 7.68 million in 2023. Marriages are typically a leading indicator for birth rates in ‌China. Woman, 24, dates twin brothers at same time, says any future child will call both men 'father' A 24-year-old woman in Thailand, known as Fah, has attracted quite a bit of media attention after revealing in a TikTok video that she is dating twins. The video showed the three of them celebrating her birthday together. While there were initial doubts of the trio's relationship, Fah confirmed they were dating, and dived a bit into how they started. Fah said she had been single for nearly a year and was not actively seeking a partner when she met the twins, and the three eventually agreed to their current relationship dynamic. While there have been some negative comments, Fah says she pays them no mind. They have been dating for over a year at this point. Thai media, Khaosod, went down to interview Fah in Northeastern Thailand. Fah works at a restaurant, while the two brothers work in farming. Fah handles the finances in their relationship. She says the three sleep together in the same bed, with her in the middle. Fah had previously also addressed the possibility of having children. She said that if she does become pregnant, a DNA test will be taken to determine the father, so the "correct name" can be listed on the birth certificate. However, the child will call both men father.
