The two officers approached the car to inform Ng about the licence plate. One of the officers also asked him to step out of the car and hand over his IC to which Ng complied.

The officer decided to conduct a search on his belongings and the car, whereupon he discovered a sling bag with drug paraphernalia inside.
At this point, he also noticed that Ng had been behaving with unease and the two officers decided to restrain him by flanking him on both sides and interlocking their arms with his.

While they informed the Police Operations Command Centre that they had detained one male in possession of drugs, Ng attempted to manouevre out of the armlock.
He was able to break free by repeatedly swinging his arms, as he was covered in sweat.
When the officer reminded Ng to cooperate, Ng refused and instead pleaded to be given a chance. He then got back into the car via the passenger's side in an attempt to get away.
Both officers were able to grab him while he was still in the passenger seat and warned him repeatedly to comply and refrain from further escalation.
However, Ng refused and leaped into the driver's seat. One of the officers was yanked forward as he was gripping onto Ng.
The officer hit his face on the front mantle of the interior of the car. The officer's spectacles were also knocked off and he suffered an injury on his nose bridge in the process.
At this point, the officer's upper body was in the car at the passenger's side and the passenger side door was left open.
Ng then started the engine of the car to drive off, dragging the injured officer for a metre while the latter was partially out of the car.
The injured officer managed to shift the car's gear into park mode, causing the car to stall.
The other officer then switched the engine off and pulled Ng out from the driver's side.
Two members of the public also helped restrain Ng.
However, Ng broke free again by swinging his body weight against one of the police officers.
He ran for a short distance before falling down, and was eventually subdued and handcuffed.
