OCBC confirms staff member infected with COVID-19

SINGAPORE — OCBC Bank said that one of its employees has been confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus amid the outbreak in Singapore.

The employee was last in the office on 28 February and fell ill a few day later, and had not been back in the office, said Koh Ching Ching, OCBC’s head of group brand and communications, in an e-mail reply on Thursday (12 March).

As a precautionary measure, staff who had close contact with the colleague are currently working from home and a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the office and the common areas have been completed.

“We are giving our colleague and our colleague’s family the best possible support. We wish our colleague a speedy recovery,” Koh said.

According to local media reports, the staff member works at OCBC Centre in Chulia Street.

On 12 February, DBS evacuated 300 workers from its Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3 headquarters after a staff member tested positive for the virus. A second case was reported six days later at another office.

Singapore confirmed 12 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total to 178. 

OCBC shares are down 3.9 per cent to S$9.13 at at the midday trading break.
