We hate to burst your alarmist bubble, dear readers, but you know that widely circulated image of the unfinished building in the KLCC area of Kuala Lumpur slumping catastrophically into the building next door? Well, it isn’t actually falling — it’s meant to be that way.

Yesterday afternoon, family WhatsApp groups were set ablaze by the dramatic image of the building under construction, with an accompanying message claiming that the “faulty” foundations were causing major traffic jams throughout the city center. (Not that we actually need a construction accidents to cause horrible traffic — we have that anyway!)

But in spite of what you’re gullible aunt may say, the developers of the building — tentatively dubbed YOO8 residences and located along Jalan Conlay — intentionally designed the edifice to incorporate a lean, as visible in the development’s promotional pamphlets. (If you needed more proof, Kuala Lumpur Fire officials have also confirmed that they have not received any reports of any “collapsing” buildings in the city center.)

Developers KJK Land have clarified that the building was designed by RSP Architects KL, and that YOO8 will feature “one of the world’s tallest twisted twin residential towers.”

(Weird flex, but OK. Also, say that five times fast!)

“Depending on the angle, the towers’ unique design will make them appear as if they are ‘tilted,'” the firm said in a statement yesterday.

“KSK Land, the developer of 8 [Jalan] Conlay, places safety and genuine care at the heart of its operations and works diligently to assess and assure all healthy and safety requirements are met and guaranteed.”

So there you have it! Another day, another ignorance-fueled rumor. But hey, one person’s incendiary hoax is another person’s free publicity boost.
