Two people found a cockroach in their takeaway food in separate incidents days before Christmas.

One was in prawn noodles from a Tampines hawker centre while the other was in a pack of mixed rice from Sengkang food court.

Stomper Richard had bought the prawn noodle soup from the Lao San Prawn Noodle stall in the hawker centre at 201 Tampines Street 21, which he said usually had a long queue.

"I did enjoy the prawn noodles soup until the drowned cockroach appeared at the bottom," recounted the Stomper, who shared a photo of the insect on the side of a bowl.

"I was totally disgusted and threw up everything."

He added: "The stall is run by people who are usually quite arrogant. So a request for compensation is impossible."

Over in Sengkang, Stomper Kenji said his father had bought dinner from the mixed rice stall in the Kopitiam Corner at 275D Compassvale Link.

"My dad found an insect in his mixed rice. We've patronised this stall for a long time but after this, I don't think we will anymore," said the Stomper, who shared a photo of what looked like a small cockroach on the lid of the styrofoam box.

In response to a Stomp query regarding both cases, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said that it is investigating the matter.

SFA added: "Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. SFA will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant food operators.

"Members of the public who come across any potentially errant food operator should report to SFA via the online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback). As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details."
